Press Release:
First annual ‘Laugh until it Doesn’t Hurt’ to be held at Columbus Funny Bone
The Columbus Funny Bone will hold the first annual “Laugh until it Doesn’t Hurt” fundraiser for type 1 diabetes on Monday, August 1, at 7 p.m.
The funds raised will go to the Mid-Ohio Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The event will be emceed by one of central Ohio’s most popular radio personalities, Derald “Woody” Johnson, from Woody and the Wake-up Call on 92.3 WCOL. The event is for adults age 21 and older. Tickets are just $20 and can be reserved at the Funny Bone box office by calling (614) 471-5653.
Laugh until it Doesn’t Hurt features two nationally-known comedians who have generously donated their time for the benefit. Greg Warren, who hails from St. Louis, Missouri, was most recently seen on Comedy Central Presents, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Last Comic Standing, and has been building a strong fan base around the country with his act inspired by stories from his Midwestern upbringing. Warren’s website is gregwarrencomedy.com.
Joining Warren is John Paul Morgan, AKA "Rajun Cajun," who is from New Orleans, Louisiana. Morgan has made national television appearances on MTV, Showtime, and Night Watch with Charlie Rose. He has been the opening act for Kathleen Madigan, Michael Bolton, The Monkeys, Ronnie Cole, Jerry Seinfeld, and Helen Reddy. In 2004, John was invited to perform at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, Just for Laughs, in the Masters level. Morgan’s website is johnmorgancomedy.com.
Laugh until it Doesn’t Hurt will contribute funds to the Walk to Cure Diabetes event in October. The Walk to Cure Diabetes team Dublin Diabetes Destroyers (D3) is producing Laugh until it Doesn’t Hurt as one of a number of summer fundraisers.
“The Funny Bone has a long tradition of giving back to the central Ohio community and we are thrilled to put smiles on faces while battling this terrible disease,” said Funny Bone owner, Dave Stroupe. “We look forward to a day when diabetes doesn’t hurt another child.”
Team D3 is a group of local media and public relations professionals who are parents and family members of children with type 1 diabetes, or have diabetes themselves.
Type 1 diabetes (or juvenile diabetes) is vastly different than type 2 diabetes, formerly called adult onset diabetes, which is typically controlled through diet and exercise and caused by unhealthy lifestyles.
Type 1 diabetes is caused when the pancreas can no longer produce insulin. A person with type 1 diabetes must prick his or her finger multiple times a day to test blood sugar levels. They also must give themselves insulin either through injections or an insulin pump. Insulin is not a cure. It is merely life support until a cure can be found.
Currently there is no cure for type 1 diabetes.
