Review embargo seems to of been lifted on Friday. And things seem a bit mixed.
Still, I'll almost certainly pick it up. Probably wait till after I finish God of War 3.

I've pre-ordered my copy. Trying to free up some time to play it this week/weekend.
The battle system sounds incredibly frustrating and tedious. I won't be picking up another FF title until they go back to the battle system of FFX.
I pre-ordered it and will hold off on GWIII since I still have to play the re-released first two on PS3. I find it curious that Sega chooses to release Yakuza3 the same day as FFXIII and Resonance of Fate the same day as GWIII/Dragon Age Awakenings expansion. Risk of being forgotten like other games that chose to release around major releases. Shadow Hearts releasing around the same time as FFX comes to mind.
I'm hesitant about the new battle system but I did pre-order it and will give it a go.
I like the Role system they're incorporating....makes the characters more unique (if that's even possible)..
Probably won't buy it for another few months though cos I'm playing FF7 for the third time haha...
Still can't beat that fucking Ruby Weapon.
I caved, and bought it last night.
About 2 hours in so far. Gorgeous graphics, and it feels like Final Fantasy. Def. starts you off slowly (in battle you basically just hit x), I'm sure it will ramp up soon. Great music as per usual. Best voice acting yet for Final Fantasy, but still some cringe inducing dialog. I kind of wish you had the option to turn on the Japanese language w/English subs, but it's nowhere to be seen.
Brief notes:
Pros:
- Amazing graphics. I have both systems but bought the PS3 version specifically for the higher resolution.
- Starting to enjoy the battle system more after reading the strategy guide and getting some pointers on the paradigm system.
Cons:
- Vanille is super annoying. Please shut up and quick frolicking around.
- WAY WAY too linear than past FF's. I don't like basically traveling around on rails, with the occasional path to an item chest. I used to love exploring and open terrain where you can grind for XP if you want to.
- Lack of a real antagonist so far is bothering me, a lot. Villains like Kefka & Sephiroth really get you involved emotionally. Sad to see that lacking here.
One thing that did annoy me was the continued use of save points. This could actually be said for a lot of games, but I don't understand why we can't just save when ever we want to these days. If I want to play for 5 minutes I should be able to do that. Computer games have had this for years and years (as far as I can remember). Heck, they could even build it into the console, just having a "save" button on the controller.

You are a man who is committed. One day when school is no longer an obstacle I will go back and finish that game. Until then I'm left with the satisfaction of having beaten FF12 on two separate occasions
FF1, FF2, FF3, FF7 & FFX hold special places in my heart.
I am enjoying it so far. Amazing graphics, interesting characters and story. The linear aspect so far did remind me of some areas of FFX. Battle system improved over FFXII and leveling a mix of FFX and FFX-2. Vanille is annoying, but that seems to be someone they always stick in their games, like Rikku in FFX. To soon to rate this one, my ranking is usually FFVI (III on SNES), FFVII, and FFX as the top ones.

Pretty much my exact thoughts. Got to use the paradigms tonight which greatly improved the experience. Liking the FFX-esque grid sphere so far also. 6(or 3) was also my favorite of the series.
I wish I could go back to being 15 and playing Final Fantasy III (SNES) for the first time. Those were some of my favorite times gaming ever.
I just got to Braska's final aeon in FFX for, I think, the fourth time. I'm addicted to this game even 10 years later. I really wish they would update FFX like they did the first two GoW's. The graphics would be sick.

Definitely, paradigms are needed with certain character combos where you don't have a commando. Also, why I have not bought a DSi or plan to get DSXl, until they redo 6(III) on DS so I don't have to keep my GBA copy. Still have my SNES copy with the crazy glitch on that island that nets me all those paladin shields.
Over 20 hours in now. Have some mixed thoughts. The battle system is fun and the characters are fairly well developed. However the story reaches a "Metal Gear Solid" series level of absurdity within about the first hour of the game, and the weapon and accessory leveling up system seems a bit random and pointless.
I was ecstatic at one point to finally be able to choose my own battle team, but I was very disappointed to see there is no way to save your paradigm's to a specific battle team. Meaning you have to re-create them every time. I'm not sure why they would have omitted this feature.
Right now my battle team of choice is Snow/Vannille/Saszh, but I'm not married to it. I feel like I have to keep Saszh in there because he knows Haste (aka best spell of all time).
I'm into Chapter 11 when it is finally less linear. I'm using Fang/Vanille/Snow. Snow being interchangeable with Lightning. Not the best Final Fantasy but very entertaining. I like it better than XII which I didn't even finish.
Quick question: is the battle system for FFXII similar to FFX. If so, I might go out and buy it, although I don't when I'll find time to play it.
