I live on the West side, but I would happily live on either. That said, we also have Wholly Craft, Whole World, Pattycake, Lavash, Rag-O-Rama,the Antique Mall, and way more.
Also, the West side is a little funkier- there are sculptures in yards, creative gardens, people hanging out on porches drinking wine in the evenings, and many walkers, runners, and bikers heading down to the park. There's a little more diversity in building usage, more apartments and duplexes, so there's a broader range of income and age.
As for N v S, I wouldn't turn down a house on Blenheim, but the South side is more walkable.
Now, if someone would just put a music venue around here, I would never have to leave (though, of course, that would be sad).
