Apologies if this thread already exists - but what's your favorite cheese? Mine is caprichio de cabra, a creamy, salty, soft Spanish goat cheese, dusted in pepper. Goes great on those Armenian sesame crackers. Also goes great with apples and pears. Whole Foods carries it, and it's affordable.
I used to hate blue cheese, but I've been really into it lately, especially Danish blues. Love it with homemade peach preserves.

Might be a Petit Basque -- sheep's milk cheese, comes in a small-diameter, tall wheel? Mike sells a fair bit of that as a good all-purpose cheese, esp. with red wines. Wouldn't surprise me if that was what was at your party....

my absolute favorite is fourme d'ambert. (a redundant name since we know we're talking about cheese here). It's similar to Stilton (another long time favorite) but is just a little creamier and has more milkyness in the flavor.
I've also been diggin' Manchego lately. It's a tasty and very solidly textured sheeps milk cheese.

my fave lately is Rogue Smoky Blue from Oregon. It's a salty cow's milk blue cheese which is smoked over hazelnut shells. Unfortunately, it's like $35 a pound. wholesale.

I try to buy American made cheese, my favorites du jour are Shelburne Cheddar (VT) and the freaky and addicting Humboldt Fog from Cypress Grove CA. The Humboldt, a layered goat cheese, is a little spendy and I'd never have bought it without trying it first, so props to Diane Warren/Katzinger's for offering it as a cheese counter tasting sample.
Shelburne Cheddar is delicate and sturdy at the same time, perfect on a cheese tray or with nachos, eggs or grilled cheese. It's priced right and I always have it on hand.

+1 on Cypress Grove. Delicious, unorthodox stuff in general from them -- an interesting lavender goat (Purple Haze), a goat cheddar, etc.
Should have mentioned having gotten completely hooked on the grilled halloumi (or Blue Jacket Dairy grilling cheese) drizzled with balsamic vinegar combo. Did a little cheese plate for a cocktail party out at my mom's over Thanksgiving, and her friends' reactions to that one went from "What's that??" to "Where can I get some?" very quickly.

Yes roy! I had Humboldt Fog in a delicious salad at Latitude 41 last summer and fell in love with it. Damn it, now I need to go get some.
As another plus, the people at Blue Jacket are great. I got some of their goat cheese last summer as well as the grilling cheese and both were excellent.

I've been having massive bleu cheese cravings lately...nearly any kind would do. I just want some baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadly.
And I love goat cheese...on beets with honey.
And brie...by the truckload.
And I give a +however many we're up to now on the manchego.
I love almost any cheese though...as long as it doesn't look, smell, feel like or in any other way resemble Velveeta.
But I guess that's more "processed cheese food product" than cheese.
