I am a food snob and Sage is one of the only restaurants in my experience that comes up to snuff. They know how to cook...we had the salmon dish and it was served rare; the trout is crunchy and wonderful; the scallops abundant and fat....what i like is that nothing is over produced, and just satisfies without being cloying. The cheese plate is fun, several cheeses with blots of accompanying and well chosen sauces and nuts...the white bean with truffle dip is great...
Beautifully cooked and presented...a little fussy but we love it. visit sage you will not be disappointed

I've only been to Sage for brunch.
That alone was enough to convince me that kss is on to something.

Can anyone tell me the average price point for dinner entrees at Sage? My parents want to take me and the bf out for our birthdays, and I'm shooting for someplace in the same price range as Basi (which is one of the contenders, of course.) I would love to have them take us to The Refectory, but I think that might be asking a bit much.
TIA!

Looks like we'll have to head back there for dinner again. We've only been once, but Anne was disappointed that the scallops were off the menu at the time we went. I'm sure she'll be glad to see them back. ;)

The last time I was in there, everything we had was excellent. However, the pork belly appetizer was so amazing that it overshadowed all the other dishes. We found ourselves wishing we had ordered 3 or 4 of them.
I'm just glad to see that all the road construction hasn't shut them down.Posted 2 years ago # -

There are lots of threads about Sage and I wanted to chime in on one of them. I have now been twice. I am sorry to be a naysayer, but I find Sage to be hit and miss, with a bit too many misses. The service is very professional, the staff exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable. I could easily come up with a better wine list, but the wine picks aren't terrible, and the mark-up is in the reasonable realm. The misses have to do with entree execution. Last night there was a limited menu for Restaurant Week. My wife's pork loin was over-cooked. Even if it had not been, the dish would have been marginal in terms of composition, IMHO. If you want to be a very good restaurnateur, dishes need to have a comingling of ingredients that marry well and are delicious. The pork loin had a rub on it and it had been obviously seared and thrown into the oven to finish (de rigeur in the industry) and it was accompanied by sweet potato hash and something the munu called "blackberry ketchup", the latter tasting like Chinese plum sauce. The flavors simply didn't meld in any favorable way. My trout had the same problem-it had been sauteed and finished in the oven and then sauced from a squeeze bottle with what appeared to be a mayo and ancho sauce that was too sweet. Little shrimp seasoned with Bay seasoning and admittedly very nice haricorts verts completed the dish. None of these components married paricularly well-they instead all stood apart. The trout smelled fishy and lack freshness or the requisite light flakiness that makes good trout enjoyable. My wife's white bean Hummus with truffle oil was a winner. My grilled Caesar's salad was kind of sad-it pales in comparison to the grilled Ceasar at The Rossi. No perceptable grilling, bland and too little dressing, some OK shaved Parm Reggiano, and some nice anchovies. Nothing really melded together to create the pop you look for in a good Caesar. Dessert was moribund. My donut and chocolate was marred by the chocolate mousse-it tasted old and dehydrated. I really want to like Sage. I can't recommend it at present.
