Preliminary results show that the stickers given out today do not make sense. "I Ohio Voting"? Ohio isn't a verb.

Early vote counts show Issue 2 failing
By Joe Vardon and Jim Siegel
Tuesday November 8, 2011 9:02 PM
With more than 700,000 votes counted, Issue 2 appears to be heading for a resounding defeat. The Republican-backed limits on collective bargaining for 360,000 public employees introduced through Senate Bill 5, Issue 2 trails 63 percent to 37 percent. Should Issue 2 fail, Senate Bill 5 would be repealed.

Craig got re-elected. Stupidity and selfishness go unpunished. We can only imagine how unimaginitive our city council is going to continue to be.
As for issue 2, public sector unions are just too powerful. They spent $30 million on this campaign (including about $300 taken from my pay). Well, let's see how long the good times last before the state can no longer pay everyone and fund their benefits. The unions I have belonged to never did me any good. I would be earning $10K more if I were not in the bargaining unit.

I am confused by your take on this. You say that "public sector unions are just too powerful." But from your own personal experience with them you find them to be basically ineffective in getting things for their membership. ?

Looks like firefighters won't become fire pacifists and cops will still help us, yay!

Not to worry Hugh, at least you'll be protected from being forced to purchase health insurance...

I do love people who get the protections but complain about the structure. Private sector is just a resume away.
That said, I've personally seen instances where unions are lackadaisical in regards to member representation. The answer to that is for the members to get fired up about it. They have democratic structures and change is possible. (I should know, I was a unionized attorney, and for a while, the president of my union)

On the bright side Hugh can always take the streetcar when he's in Cincinnati. It passed.

It is less effective )and less concerned about) getting things that are good for the workers. Politicians know that the way to win union support is to promise things that are good for the union leadership. Heaven help the union member who dares to question or challenge anything the union leadership does.
