Tree huggers embrace all

Environmentalism in recent years has become a politically charged issue. When someone tells you "I am an environmentalist," chances are the first thing that comes into your head is "liberal." Perhaps "no real understanding of our economy" is next, followed by "hypocrite" - it's not hard to see SUVs around campus plastered with "plant a tree"-type bumper stickers. In fact, often the last thought the word "environmentalist" brings up is the environment itself.
Enter Earth Day. Whatever political side of the fence you fall on, it's not hard to see that the environment right here in the city of Columbus could use a little tender loving care. This is why this year Columbus is hosting its largest Earth Day event in history on April 21, this coming Saturday. From planting trees to community beautification to river cleanup, the environment - and not the politics behind the environment - will be the focus.
Still not convinced? Afraid that participating in Earth Day will turn you into a dirty hippie? Then read on.
