Earth Day 2010 is April 22nd, and the 40th Anniversary of this great campaign. How will YOU participate?
Stay local, and help us take care of one of Columbus' greatest city parks. Goodale Park is an official Earth Day site!

Join us on Saturday, April 17th, from 9:00am until 12:00pm, in Goodale Park, nestled in the Short North and Victorian Village. We will be mulching, weeding, doing litter pick-up (and also graffiti removal, grrrr), and general gardening and park maintenance. If you have garden tools, bring 'em. If you have friends, bring 'em too. Meet me at the shelter house!

While I'm sure nobody is going to turn volunteers away on the day of the event, there is a team of people working to make sure that each volunteer site has enough supplies for the volunteers. They base that on the number of people signed up on the website. So please do sign up on the website.

I agree. While we will not be turning anyone away, it is helpful for the Earth Day organizers (and for me, too) to know how many volunteers have signed up for each site. Things seem to run more smoothly when you know how many volunteers are available to help with a particular task, like mulching and planting trees.

After a weekend of community service, itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s time to celebrate! Grab a blanket or some chairs and keep the green going on the 88 acres of Franklin Park Conservatory on Thursday, April 22 from 3pm to 10pm. Admission to the celebration is FREE. Earth Day 2010: The Update worksite volunteers enjoy special benefits at the celebration like a free scoop of ice cream or a free beer. Plus, the celebration is zero waste. Nothing goes to the landfill: everything is recycled or composted (so check the labels on the bins before you toss stuff in!). The celebration, like the worksites, offers something for everyone.

I'll be there, serving as booth beef for the Friends of the Scioto River. We'll have some informational displays, and I'll be handing out pencils made from rolled-up newsprint. It sounds like there will be a lot of new things this year, in the new setting at the Conservatory.

What great luck with the weather this year, not just for today but for last weekend's work dates. At last year's festival we were shivering and holding the canopy down so it wouldn't blow away.

I'll try and stop by and put some names to faces tonight. If anyone wants to see who the crazy bike nut is I'll be in the corral after 5:30.
