I have a very odd pair of earrings from my late grandmother; extremely ugly and somewhat fragile tiki masks. I love them and begged for them when her jewelry was being liquidated. The problem is that Gram never pierced her ears and they have screw backings. Just spent ten minutes trying to get them on and gave up.
Where can I get them converted to posts for a reasonable price? Again, they are somewhat delicate and of extreme sentimental value.

They don't really work well on every lobe, as it were. Not everyone has a little pad at the bottom of their ears, that the back can be pressed above, to stop it from slipping.
I know I've tried to wear some like this, and had to screw them so tightly that I thought I was going to tear thru the existing piercing - and even THEN, they wanted to slip. It was painful, yo.
@Catnfiddle - if they have a loop at the top, where the screwback is attached, a jeweler can switch out the screwback for whatever you want... basically what I ended up doing. If not, I would find a jeweler in town who carries estate jewelry (sadly, I know none, other than Grandview Merch) - they're most likely to have a repair person that is up to the challenge.

I'll give it a couple more tries screwing them on. I'll have to wear them to a CU event this summer so people can see them.

I'm also looking for earring conversion -- the other way. My mother has a bunch of post earrings she'd like to convert to the clips. We've tried the "adaptors" you slip over the posts, but they never seem to work.
I seem to remember years ago, taking several pairs to Birds Unlimited (?) in Grandview, where they did 5 pairs in about a week.

Cat- I suggest you take them to the Diamond Exchange downtown-- on Gay Street west of High. The owner does custom work, and he'll let you know if they are convertible. He has repaired a bunch of stuff for me, and he is a friend of mine... tell him I said hi if you take them there.
