The person who gets the most votes should be mayor.

Whichever one wears glasses and a mustac-- oh, wait, both of them have glasses and a mustache.
Whomever toughens up our neighborhoods, so we don't have to go through a hellish violent summer like last year.
I'm not going to tell you who I'm NOT voting for, at least on here.

I love Mayor Mike. He's far from perfect, but I'm a big fan of how the city has developed under his watch. He has a passion for the city, and he's shown a real commitment to bringing the inner city back to life. I've lived here practically my whole life and in my opinion, he reversed what had been a long downhill slide for the center city under previous mayors.
That said, I just read through the Smith interview, and it sounds like he'd be a perfectly decent candidate --if we didn't already have a mayor I'm happy with.
The one thing I really didn't get from the interview (and maybe it's my own fault for not submitting a question) is in what ways does Smith feel he's a contrast to or an improvement over Coleman.

A majority of the people I have talked to have said similar things. But still there are a few months to go until the election and many things could happen.

Earl Smith seems like a great guy with absolutely no idea what he'd do as mayor.

I wish he treated all areas of the city equally, but he hasn't. Earl on the other hand has been up here with us, shoulder to shoulder, picking up garbage, attending block watch meetings, etc. I'll be voting for the guy who is visible and actually seems to care, Earl.

All the good mayor has done for the South Side is try to give us more section 8 housing. I'm a life long Dem but I'm thinking about voting for Earl.

Smith should run as an Independent. He might actually have a competitive chance against Coleman. I have no interest in supporting or rewarding the party that brought us John Kasich and an oil tanker's worth of regressive reactionary politics and policy.

This thread amazes me with the "they didn't help my block" stuff.
Somehow this city managed to outpace the entire State in virtually every category in a horrible economic climate, in population and dollars, under the current mayor.
I don't give a rat's ass if he walked down broad street with a trash bag.

I have to agree with Core_Models. I am admittedly not able to vote for Mayor of Columbus... as I live in Grandview right now... but I think the "guy I could have a beer with" mentality has trainwrecked a lot of things.
I'm not saying Coleman has been perfect... but when you look at the big picture of what a mayor is supposed to do... by keeping a city thriving and pushing it forward.. I'd have to say Lando has done a good job.
That all said, Mr. Smith seems like a nice guy who is genuinely wanting to help his city. I wouldn't compare him to our train(less)wreck of a governor.

I think the ''guy you can have a beer with'' thing is great too, but its not the only requirement. It makes sense to start small...taking this big of a leap is a sure way to fail.

I've never seen Coleman cleaning up trash in the Short North. I HAVE seen him having a drink with people at festivals, Short North Tavern, Bodega, and Eleven.
