I am taking a lot of heat from friends and relatives outside of Ohio for OSU President E. Gordon Gee's multiple press conference/interview mishaps. Since the entire football scandal broke, Gee has made a few comments that have added fuel to that he needs to step down. From the first comment, "I hope he doesn't fire me[Tressel]." to the "sisters of the poor" comment and the Polish army joke, just a few months ago. I am huge Gee fan and love what he has done for tOSU and the City of Columbus, but with that said I'm afraid I might be a homer. I am curious if everyone shares the same sentiment? I don't think a few public speaking missteps are grounds for firing. right?

Yes he has "put his foot in his mouth" numerous times..but I do not see the trustees firing him for the comments. We of course do not know of what (if any) discussions the board may have had with Gee...but I am sure his whole body of work is what they look at. Of course people out of Ohio only see/read the comments...that embarass Gee...

I'll take Gee's comments over former OSU President Karen Holbrook's any day:
"When you win a game, you riot. When you lose a game, you riot. When spring comes, you riot. African-American Heritage Festival weekend, you riot."

In the case of severe coaching misconduct being proven, often the athletic director will be terminated along with the offending coach. I think it's time for Gene Smith to go, not Gee. Gee has done and is doing great things for OSU, so I think OSU just needs to hire someone to follow Gee around and keep him away from a live mic! As far as your friends, just give them heat. That's what I do when my friends start talking shit about Ohio State.

At least Gee is somewhat authentic and human. Every time I've met him he's been extremely nice and gracious.
I wouldn't want that gig and would probably say much worse. :-)

Gordon is Les Wexner's poodle.

Where are these "friends and relatives from outside Ohio" you're taking heat from? Because there's a good chance that a major University within their state tried, and failed, to recruit Gee (and would continue to fall over themselves to try and get him if they thought he could be dislodged.)

I am a lifetime member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, a member of the Undergraduate Student Government Alumni Society, and an annual donor to Ohio State. (Not in massive ways yet--there's a brick in the new Union with my name on it, for example, but not a building.) I don't know who these mysterious, anonymous people expressing dissatisfaction with Gee are from out-of-state (in particular, I don't know if they're Buckeyes), but at least personally, I have not found any deterioration of alumni support for OSU (emotional or financial) based on misgivings about Gee's performance. He is a good fit for the university in a way that Karen Holbrook never was (nor Brit Kirwan, for that matter, though he was less of a misfit here). For as long as that holds true, Gee isn't going anywhere.
I'm somewhat critical of the size of Gee's pay package, but that's about it.
