Have DSL (normal residential grade) at the office and Road Runner at home. DSL speed could be 3mbps up and .5mbps down but we are really getting 2.5 up and .4 down... I know the cable package we have lists about the same speeds. I don't notice much difference between the DSL and cable...

If you have cable TV and they're willing to give you a decent package deal, that could be considered a fair tiebreaker. I don't have cable TV; I have a barebones landline (I'd pay per minute if I actually tried to make phone calls on it) to use the DSL on, and then have AT&T Yahoo DSL, and that's been pretty good to me.

I use DSL service from Speakeasy.. It's on the spendy side, but it rarely if ever goes down, which is important as I work from home and I need my internet to be up.
The RoadRunner service, when I had it was pretty poor at times..I'd have outages of several hours at a time.. If you don't rely on your internet, this may be worth it..

Depends on what you do online. For me hands down cable is better in terms of speed up and down. It's been awhile since I've had to deal with DSL, but I've always found the network authentication (PPOE) to be infuriating on DSL.
