I see just as many folks texting on the roads. The best one was at Easton - 4 kids in a car, the driving holding a phone, texting, the other three watching what she was doing on the phone. While moving down the street.

Haw. I saw a lot of people in Amsterdam texting on their bikes.A couple of days ago I was walking down 3rd when I saw, no shit, a guy on a unicycle listening to his iPod and reading a book -- all while pedaling on one wheel on German Vilage brick sidewalk. Just as soon as my little brain thought, "How is he not wrecking?" there he went.
Moral: I don't know. But that was way crazier than texting.

I suppose the average unicycle pilot is more skilled than the average American driver, though we may need a juggling chainsaws while driving ban to be totally safe.

I like to honk at and cut off drivers who are texting, before I update my mobile facebook about it.

Do you honestly think someone who works for the CPD is going to go out of their way to pull someone over for texting? I'm suprised they wrote one ticket for texting. The CPD is voice activated and has to be told where to go to police/protect the community. And with all of this new re-districting with CPD, they don't have enough time to police something that has been proven to be more dangerous than drinking and driving.Walker wrote >>

In michigan, where it's illegal in the entire state, the cops are pulling people over if they spot it or suspect it. The creepiest thing is they're also employing data retrieval devices to plug into your phone and look at your recent activity. Of course the ACLU is a bit annoyed by this, but it's still going on.

I live near a highschool and there is a lot of teen traffic. Invariably there is a teen sitting at a light texting away. Heck, it is funny to see the kids walking like zombies staring at their phones oblivious to the world around them. I think the CU crowd is a bit older and can 'unplug' a bit more responsibly.

you know that woman sued the mall, right? It says she sued because the security guards taped themselves laughing at her and posted it on youtube. It says she laughs at herself and what happened but is realizing why 'mall security is mall security'. I don't think she will win, but wonder what happens to demoted mall security.
It brings up another thing I saw recently. There was a wreck at the intersection near the school. Some kid, who it turned out had nothing to do with either car, was walking around filming the wreck with his cell phone. One driver ended up yelling at him to get the fuck away. I think part of the zombie detachment carries over to this type of voyeurism.

...seems common sense.

It should be extended to using the phone in any matter by the driver while the cehicle is in motion. That is what cities have.
It really should not matter if you are dialing a number, texting or plugging info into a gps. You are driving a mass of metal with tremendous kinetic energy that inattention for 2 seconds can cause death.
