so i love how ohio has record high liquor sales which has a sizable portion going into state government via state liquor licenses and yet has such strict drinking laws and even harsher punishments without an established public transit system. what the hell.

Ok, what are you getting at? Because we drink a lot, we should have better public transit?

Did someone get a DUI? Don't see what the lack of transit has to do with one's responsibility to not get behind the wheel. Make someone the DD or call a cab.

Or just drink at home...

i think the laws should be changed. for example, is a "super dui" really needed? (getting three dui's on a first time offense) i also consider yellow plates a form a discrimination considering you can earn yellow tags on a first time offense. and also, .08 is not quite practical in my opinion unless we have a solid public transit system where there would be no reason to have to drive after a post work happy hour.

i had a martini at hyde park and left. resulted in a dui...and yes this is based on a biased angry rant

Damn that COTA for getting me wasted.

Couldn't stick around for another hour and down some water? Or go for a walk through the SN?
It's not the cops fault.

what did ya do to get pulled over?

im not blaming the cop, he has to do his job....i just dont agree with the way that our drinking laws have been written. btw, water only relieves the hangover and has no effect on the BAC.

How can you guys be so dense??
It is clearly anyone else's fault but J's.
Sheesh!

I'm curious to know where J was headed after leaving. Drinking at Hyde park, driving up Summit. It's not like COTA isn't available at that hour (implication seems to be this was after work).

Man do you weigh like 50 lbs? Because one Martini unless it's triple the size should not put you over a .08 mark.

I kinda agree with this guy on this one...
.08 is messed up! The reason being it is an a set number and we ALL know that the way alcohol affects certain people is VERY subjective.I would feel much better if they went back to using field tests instead of just saying that EVERYONE who blows a .08 or higher gets a DUI or worse.
I just feel targeting people who have a few drinks at dinner etc is counter productive for our economy in so many ways as well as the whole DUI process (paying 4k+ and then not being able to drive to work even affecting you getting a job or getting you fired) it's a horrible cycle seeing someone trying to get back on their feet after getting a DUI...I'm not saying people who drive around HAMMERED aren't wrong, but their is a line here that I feel was crossed long ago that has taken DUI's into a money making legal frenzy turning many good people into criminals who can no longer support themselves or their families.
My 2 cents....

If I remember correctly, the martinis at hyde park are not small either.

All it takes is a phone call and, at most, 40-50 bucks in cab fare to avoid the cycle you describe. Or waiting an hour or two.
