“THE MUPPET MOVIE” TO KICK-OFF DREXEL SUMMER KID’S FILM SERIES

Feel like a kid again and don’t forget to bring the kids to the Drexel Summer Kid’s Series which will present an exciting mix of classic and new family films at the historic neighborhood theatre this Summer. The Series kicks-off with The Muppet Movie, showing on Friday, June 29 at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 30 at 11:00 am, and Wednesday, July 4 at 1:30 pm. This 1979 movie was the first live action, musical featuring The Muppets and features the voice talents of Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog, Frank Oz as Fozzie Bear and Miss Piggy, and Dan Goelz at The Great Gonzo. The film also features the entire Muppet Gang and cameos by Paul Williams, Orson Welles, Elliot Gould and Madeline Kahn, to name just a few. In the film, Kermit decides to leave home and head to Hollywood to become a movie star, after meeting a talent agent (Dom Deluise). The Muppet Move was nominated for 2 Academy Awards, and won a Grammy Award for the song, “The Rainbow Connection” sung in the film by Kermit the Frog.
The Drexel Summer Kid’s Film Series is designed to bring some of parents favorite movies back to the big screen to share with their kids, for the ultimate family movie experience. Kids can feel free to wiggle and giggle and participate in an audience setting while watching classic movies that will delight moviegoers, both young and old. All screenings include a classic cartoon or specially selected short subject, live prize drawings and contests, and film introductions. Other highlights in this Series include a Sing-Along version of The Wizard of OZ (July 20, 21, 25), the Columbus Premiere of Make Believe, an award-winning film about the biggest teen magician competition in world, and a special tribute to child star Shirley Temple (August 3, 4 & 8).
All films in the Series are screened on Fridays at 1:00 pm; Saturdays at 11:00 am; and Wednesdays at 11:00 am (with the exception of the July 4 showing of The Muppets at 1:30 pm). Tickets are $2.75 for children 12 and under, $3.50 for adults, students and seniors, and $2.00 for Drexel Theatre members.
