@hungrywoolf, I use Betsy from Substance for all my stores alterations, she does a great job.

It's really sad to see a business suffer this public humiliation. I hope the employees are able to get on their feet soon.
I don't think the the closing had that much to do with the success or business challenges of operating a business in the Short North.
From my understanding the closure was a business repossession. As an outsider, it's not hard to conclude that their rapid growth and multiple locations probably had a huge negative impact on the overall business operation. This unfortunate situation was a casualty.

Yeah I heard the same thing as JonMyers. Those men loading the trucks were from a repo business. They must have owed some serious money to the bank.

Bash me if you'd like for "not supporting local businesses" but I'm not going to cry about a place that sells $200 jeans going under. I doubt their clientele will be forced to go pantless now.

Those people who buy $200 jeans, also don't mind spending food and drink money in the SN, and at other retail establishments. It gives another reason for these shoppers not to come down to the SN to spend their money. Everytime I went in Dr.M there were always people in there spending money.

But why should I have to go to NY or LA for my designer jeans? While I'd prefer to get my jeans from a local shop (especially from a great bunch of people like Kevin and his gang at Mojoe), you can still pick up your Diesels, Rock & Republics, Sevens, Papers, Rasts and others at Nordstrom. Check out Brigade (brand new shop next to Three Dog Bakery- http://www.clothingbrigade.com/) for some really great stuff, including some killer Diesel and G-Star gear that you can't get anywhere else in the area.

I have a huge penis and that impresses women enough that I don't need to overcompensate with high fashion.
That being said, there are people who like that sort of store. Perhaps not enough in Columbus to keep that store afloat. Of course, boutiques are risky. Trends change and its hard to keep up.
I hate to see another business go belly up in the Short North. Except for the Starbucks. Screw them.

I just hate to see so many SN businesses closing their doors. This must be the 5th store to close in the past 6 weeks.

Short North isn't an "untouchable" from the recession and tightening of wallets, people....

Brigade looks cool, but someone needs to explain to them the benefits of a professional photographer. This is a photo they have advertising a pair of jeans on their site:

Brigade also desperately needs some signage (unless they put some up over the holiday). their frontage is set back in the Yukon, and heading down the street one could completely miss that it is even there.

Like the former executive director of the SNBA said, the SN needs to keep pushing itself as a tourist destination. Outside of Chicago, I don't think there's any city that has something that compares to what the SN offers in the Midwest. Knowing that, I certainly should be seeing more out-of-state license plates. Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati could compete and even top the SN (great architecture), but it has a ways to go before it becomes an equal.

As far as I know, Dr. MoJoe's only direct competitors in Columbus (with the sames brands) are Sax and Nordstrom. Kevin and Dr.M seemed to be good neighbors and appeared committed to downtown, going back their days at Cricket West in City Center. I hate to see a business close.

Perhaps I'm just cranky because I liked a lot of their clothes but couldn't possibly afford to shop there. Just more proletariat angst.

@Jed, the beauty of the Short North is that it seems to have something unique for everyone but maybe not everything for everyone. I think we look at it as the whole being greater than the sum of our parts. A good neighbor is priceless, we hate to lose any of them, it hurts all of us. Many folks would travel from far and wide *just* to visit MoJoe and that would benefit all of us.
