Downtown Live is taking place at Columbus Commons again this year.
Here's the lineup:
When: Thursdays, June 7 – September 6 (except June 14, 21; Aug. 9, 16)

Time: Live music from 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. (July 5 begins at 6 p.m.)

Where: Columbus Commons 160 S. High Street

Parking? Easy in and out at the corner of Rich and High Streets

More Info? Call Melissa at 645-5281.

All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. except July 5 when we celebrate Columbus in Song with the 200Columbus song contest winners.

What is with the fence all the way around Columbus Commons today for the FREE concert Series? the only opening was off of Rich St near the restrooms. Every other entrance was fenced off- and whenever you tried to enter at any of the other entrances by opening the fence, the park security came running over to stop you from entering or even trying to exit the park. VERY VERY UNINVITING. I saw a lot of people just walk by because you couldnt get in at the High St or 3rd St park entrances and many thought it was a private event. I think that is why there was only about 15-20 people there. VERY DISAPPOINTING set up. Did not feel welcomed there and really turned me off about going back again.

I believe they sell alcohol at the park during concerts which requires the fence to comply with liquor laws.

But hey, uninformed blind rage is probably best.

So uninhibited, dismissive, and off-putting snark is much better?

Access is a valid concern. Especially for a free concert, alcohol or not, the High and 3rd entrances should probably be open IMO.

That's probably necessary because it is in a park setting. I don't recall there being a fence at Darby's, but I could be mistaken.

Perhaps the fencing should be reworked? It could also be set up already for the Picnic with the Pops show.

I think Darby's is a bit different since it's more contained. When I worked there, the other businesses did set up ornamental fencing and signage.

Looking at the park map, the orientation of the stage kind of makes the Rich Street entrance logical.

Normally the fence is just around the grassy area near the stage to control alcohol and it usually has a wide opening at the brick walkway. Since tonight the fields in the center of the park are being used for kickball, so no need to be fenced off- no alcohol allowed in those areas anyway. Tonight however they had the area around the stage, where alcohol was sold, fenced in, but then they also had the entire perimeter of the park fenced in. Now I can understand it being set up for Picinic with the Pops, but all they really needed to do was open the fence at each of the entrances for tonights free concert, but security tonight made it very clear that the fence was NOT to be opened at any of the entrances. The only entrance was off Rich St at the restrooms. And like I said there was barely 25 people there (other than kickball), sitting all the way up by the stage.

Seems like the guards either weren't informed or didn't take an extra 30 seconds to provide helpful info. I'm sure shooting an email to park management or using social media on their FB/Twitter would net an actual answer and would help them improve.

Despite the heat, a severe thunderstorm, and low attendance, the featured artists played their hearts out yesterday. I think the near 100F temp kept most people away, but the stage created a nice shadow and respite from the heat. VIP's, whoever they were, chilled under tents with nearby beverage service. Mayor Mike was there, floating between the tents and stumping for a young, off-key rapper, whose performance was cut short by a quick, but violent thunderstorm. Performances resumed after the weather cleared.
