The Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel is more than a year from opening but already is booking rooms - at an average price higher than hotel officials had projected.
Still, the publicly financed $140million hotel - being built across High Street from the Greater Columbus Convention Center - is running 18 percent behind its goal for bookings, the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority board was told at its meeting yesterday.

Plans are moving ahead to double the capacity of the Greater Columbus Convention CenterbizWatch ’s west parking garage, a project that could presage office construction downtown by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.bizWatch
The Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority has asked the Downtown Commission to approve adding two decks to the five-level, 887-slot garage. The $14 million project would provide 916 additional spaces to the convention center and a Hilton hotel under construction on North High Street. But the bulk of the new parking likely would be reserved for Nationwide, which has interest in leasing up to 600 spots for offices it is considering building on 2.6 acres at Front Street and Nationwide Boulevard, across from its headquarters.
The article also mentions Nationwide would want 600 spots reserved for the future office building next to it. Given the number of spaces it sounds like this new structure will probably be in similar size the rest of the arena district, 5-7 story building.

Hotel’s progress adds to city’s ‘destination’ label

The backers of the Hilton Columbus Downtown, rising across High Street from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, marked a milestone in the hotel’s development yesterday by holding a 'topping off' ceremony for the 532-room building.
Fifteen months after the company broke ground and 11 months before the hotel is scheduled to open, the frame of the structure is now essentially completed — “on time and on budget,” noted John Christie, chairman of the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority board.
