From The Downtown Columbus Weekly E-Alert:
New Downtown Cornhole League
Corn hole is the newest recreation league to hit downtown. Play the classic tailgate game indoors, sipping on cool beverages and yummy tidbits from local restaurants such as Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails, El Arepazo and Due Amici. Teams consist of two players; individuals may also sign up and be paired with a partner. Each team will play three games per night during the regular season, with a one-week tournament to follow regular season play.

Location: Residence Inn by Marriott, Gay Street
Hours: Thursdays, January 5 - 26
Admission: $50 per team or $30 per individual

This just started last night. They said they are still allowing more teams to join and they will pro-rate the fees depending on when you join. It was a pretty fun time and cool playing inside the Residence Inn downtown. My team ended up playing 12 games over about 3 hours.

When I see the term "cornhole" and actually don't think about giggling, does that mean that I'm officially a Midwesterner? Before moving here, that's a term I'd only read in William Burroughs novels. Also, we called the game "beanbag toss".

I'm with Amy. It is pretty funny. And beanbag toss is lame. So is 'sacks'.. .which is what it is called in the Chicago area. That is equally evocative... and dumb..

... I like Cornhole.

I can find humor in the term "sack toss". What's the origin of the word "cornhole" anyway?

i'd like to know that one. "sack toss" is kind of funny, but gives me a vision of testicles. i think i might start saying that though. sack toss. it makes me smile.

I thought the name came from "corn in the hole" because the bags were filled with corn and uh, there's a hole? But what do I know, I'm from Texas, we play horseshoes :)

I've been asked to a few cornholing events.
When indicating that I had not cornholed and, thank you very much, have no interest, people point at me, identifying me as a non-Columbus native.

I am surprised Jon Myers is into cornholing. That seems too provincial for him ;)

All I can think of when I hear "cornhole" is

A)Drunk OSU students and

B) Beavis.
