Just text "Haiti" to 90999 and $10 will be donated. They will send a reply message in which time you reply "YES". This is a horrible tragedy and they need all the help they can get. I'm assuming it just shows up on your next phone statement. I don't know and I'm not really worried about it.

You can also donate through Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti earthquake fund by texting "Yele" to 501501. The amount of the donation is $5 per text, which is charged to your mobile bill.

Text 'HAITI' to 90999: This service was set up by the U.S. State Department. Texting "HAITI" to the number will donate $10 to the International Red Cross, and will appear as a charge on your wireless bill.

Thought you would all like to know.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries and the majority of the population live below the poverty line.
The OSU medical community sends volunteers to staff a medical facility set up by a church. Faculty, staff and Interns take time off to go to Haiti to provide care without any compensation and paying all their expenses.
They work in a cinder block facility that uses a generator for power during the day and often go with no power at night. Hot water is a luxury often reserved for patients. Interns give up half their vacation time to staff the facility for two weeks.
That's one for the scarlet and grey!
Not just now, but every day of every year.(I was going to post a picture, but you can't google Haiti without getting all current news hits)

(already did my text yesterday thanks to Twitter information). Now that's effed up... even by his low standards. Couldn't find it with a quick google... but found a bunch of tasteless drivel about how Clinton shouldn't want to be the envoy to Haiti because he couldn't partake of Haitian prostitutes without getting AIDS.

While normally not an Olbermann fan (I think he's a bit over the top himself), this...was...awesome.

Ah, now it makes sense. I wondered why so many updates in my facebook feed were trashing the relief effort. I knew they couldn't have come up with all that on their own. Oh the joys of being from Texas :)
ETA: Core, so glad someone said what everyone was thinking. He may be over the top, but he's just so gosh darn handsome I love him!

I actually kind of wonder --
(oh... Pat Robertson is an asshole, by the way)
I actually kind of wonder whether this text-message microdonation option might not represent a genuine sea change in disaster relief. I get the impression that a lot of people are doing it.

From The New York Times, fundraiser for Haiti at Claddagh on Front St., tonight until 10pm. Still some time for some of you in the area to make it.

I swear, comments like that from Pat Robertson and Limbaugh make me feel physically ill! Race, the devil, seriously? So now even trying to help suffering people is an "agenda". I respect CU to much to type what is actually going through my head right now!
