Lindey's is a pretty good place. I'd give it a 3.5 to a 4.
But at $10.50 for a hamburger or $19 for fish 'n chips is a little steep.
Whenever we sit down the bar area is packed and the dining room empty.
In some places restaurants have 'bar menus' where it's the same food without the white table cloth and bread basket for a substantial discount.
So they do that here?
More importantly, do they do that at Lindey's?

Nope. Bar menu is same as regular menu.
The bar area just gets crowded because people like to mingle there... the back areas are less mingle-friendly. And it isn't so fun to eat at Lindey's if at least four of your closest acquaintances don't see you there :) Which is why the patio is so popular... the bar is in the back, so the mingle quotient is higher.
I also tend to eat in the bar because often I'm not really dressed for "fine dining" so I figure the bar area is more appropriate.

And to answer the second part of that question... I think there may be one or two fine restaurants that have a "limited" menu for the bar area; but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
Now that I think about it, I ran into that much more often when I lived in New Jersey. One of my favorite restaurants in Lambertville had an awesome bar menu that was half the price of the restaurant menu.
I suspect some of that may have to do with variations in liquor laws in different states.

Damn, I was hoping Lindeys had something less expensive. It's walking distance from my house.
Must be an east coast thing. I don't remember any place with a bar menu in Chicago. Lots in New York and Philly.
No table cloth or waiter, and you may be poking your neighbor with your elbow when you eat, but often the food was half price. Favorite was the Ritz Carlton in Philly, where I could take my dog up to the bar. They would put him in a leather booster chair and give him a dog biscuit on a plate. I'd order a cheeseburger, fries and coke and get out for $10. Not much more than you would pay at McDonslads
