she is one of my fav house dj's. i have nothing bad to say about her. her vibe with the crowd is crazy. the last time i saw her was on my b-day about 3 or 4 years ago. i had a blast. i'm not going to miss her spinning in columbus. i can't wait.

Say what you will about the Sugar Bar, but it's great to see some promoters there pulling these headliners into town. It's been awhile since we've had some of these people swing through town and it seems like no one else is really out there to host these types of bigger events.
When you couple this with the lesser-known national house djs that Scott and Jason and Mike are pulling in at Lotus and Quality @ BoMA, the B-more acts coming to Skully's, some regional talent at Karma, and all the local events being thrown every week, we've got a pretty well-rounded electronic scene going on so far in 2007.

I agree, although I don't really get out to see a ton of house anymore, I am really happy that people are keeping it alive and well.
Also, I believe the fact that legendary rave promoter Disco Donnie lives in Columbus is the main reason Sugar / Skye keep getting all these huge dj's.
If you don't know about Donnie, Google him or something. He is the guy that the feds tried to go after for throwing raves in new orleans. Pretty much the death of the rave scene can be traced back to his legal troubles. The best part is he won the case, and they continue to throw raves in the same building (a movie theatre multi-plex) in New Orleans. Also he has a lot to do with booking acts at the Voodoo music fest in New Orleans. There was a great article mentioning him in URB where they talked about Trent Reznor performing at the first post katrina VooDoo fest for free.

DJ Irene is not house music.
Not saying she is bad at what she does, but that is not house music.
It's more like Electronic Rock and Roll.
It's good to see Sugar expanding into out of town dj's though.

I went to some of that guys parties in New Orleans back in the day (still got the flyers). Some of the most incredible events I've ever been to.
***DJ Irene ---> not house***

She is classified as hard house a lot...that used to be my favorite genre, funny how tastes change/evolve

Hey Aaron, is there some reason donnie isn't booking these acts at a nicer, less cramped venue like BoMA?

Wish this was at a different venue, but if you haven't seen Irene live, please do yourself a favor and check her out! She has great interaction with her audience and drops some wicked tracks. I saw her when she came to Glow a few years ago and it was a fantastic experience.

that was truly the place to be. i think i was there almost every saturday dancing to the music and just having a great time. i'm with you on the number of dj's that walked through those doors. i saw a lot of them as well. nothing like the good ol days of great clubs in columbus. no clubs will match up to the vibe and good times of the past but i know things change and we have to adjust to the present and future.

true
it's not really fair to compare these new places to the old. those were different times for columbus. drug revolutions come around every 20 or so yrs, so we aren't likely to witness another any time too soon.

Yeah glow was the shit! I thought Irene wasn't that good there & then we had her @ Long Street & she killed it. The past 3 years or so everytime shes played there was crazy energy in the room.
