I am 99% certain that on statewide issues, it's only the total statewide vote count.

OK, I don't know why, I just started dying inside thinking that wasn't the case. But man, that's even more scary that people in Cleveland and Cincy could force us to have that ugly mess in our downtown. Ugh, this worries me.

Well, I gamble fairly (too) often at Casinos in Indiana and New Jersey and I've always wanted to the option to gamble here. But I'm not voting for this Issue either. If we're going to allow gambling or slots here in Ohio it needs to be done in an open and fair manner that is in the best interest of Ohio. This simply gives a handful of people the right to build Casino's and that isn't the best way. I don't know why there hasn't been a generic issue placed on the ballot that would allow casino gambling here with rules set by the State. Why does it always have to be certain parties being allowed to build casinos?

Anyway, it's really no skin off my nose if we don't have gambling here (we do actually have gambling in Ohio just not in casinos). I don't do it as much as I used to and Hollywood or Wheeling is less than 2 hours away if I feel like gambling. Really Ohio kind of missed the boat on casino gambling anyway. People don't have the money to gamble like they did 5 years ago. We've let hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue literally drive out of the state over the last decade or so. It's really not going to make *that* much of a difference having it here now.

I'm completely NO on Issue 3 for all the reasons mentioned above. A "general" amendment with control by state officials is the ONLY way I'll ever vote for legalizing casinos in Ohio.

Question: In a previous post (or messageboard comment?) someone mentioned that while the PRO ads say the tax rate is the 4th highest, it doesn't say that there are many states with higher tax rates. Does anyone have the source for this? I'd love to see that fact in one of the ANTI ads...

"Proponents for Issue 3 want you to think that a 33% tax rate is a good deal. <Cue image of '4th highest tax rate in the nation'> But in reality, comparing to other states, Ohio would have ??th tax rate. <Cue scrolling list of all states with higher tax rates>"

Or something like that...

Ohioans - for good or bad - don't like it when they think businesses aren't paying appropriate taxes. That stat (if it's true) might kill the bill right there.

Poll: Casino proposal has narrow edge of support
Business First of Columbus - by Matt Burns

Polling data released Thursday by the group leading the charge to defeat a four-casino proposal for Ohio show support and opposition within striking distance of each other.

Conducted by Sarasota, Fla.-based Polling and Strategic Design, the poll shows that among 800 likely Ohio voters, 48 percent supported the proposal to build casinos in four cities, while 44 percent opposed the effort. The margin of error for the poll, conducted Oct. 7-11, was 3.5 percentage points.

The closer to the election gets the more people realize this proposal is just as bad as past ones. I expect a closer vote on this one. I agree "sjack" I believe the best proposal would be one with more state control. Look forward to the mud sligging the next few weeks.
