Is it just me or is the Dispatch way more expensive this year?
Last time I upped it cost me about $38 for 7 months of sundays. Now for the equiv they want $83 for 8 months?

There is also a decrease in what is offered. I talked to customer service today to find out why I did not get a paper on January 1. I have Satuday/Sunday delivery which has in the past included a paper on federal holidays. This year the subscription was changed so the only two 'Bonus' holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas.
At least next year New Years falls on a Saturday, so I guess I will get one anyway the next 2 years.
I wish there was an 'on-demand-option' to order (ahead of time) a paper on a certain day. It's such a waste to get the paper daily when we only read it weekends. They've even offered us daily for the same price, but IMO it creates way too much paper going into the landfill/recycle stream.
Yeah, my wife got our new bill and they wanted $3 a week for the Sunday paper, which is more than double what we currently pay. They offered to reduce it down to $2 or so, but I still canceled.
Drug Mart sells said paper for 99 cents on Sundays.

I'm paying $2/wk for Sat/Sun. If they raise that I certainly cancel Saturday since I don't read it much and I may cancel Sunday too. I can get them at Discount Drug or Kroger when I want one. I'm generally up before the paper gets here, so it's a good excuse to get out and pick up some Tim Horton's for the family and grab a newspaper.
I had been getting the weekend paper since college and a few months ago, I noticed my bill almost doubled. When I called to talk to someone, they had no explanation. What I don't understand is how they give the paper away in stores when they try to get you to subscribe or how it's so heavily discounted at the grocery. Why not give some perks back to the loyal customers?
They need to raise some revenue to form other civic activism groups so they can protect their investments.
Update - just got the latest bill. Now it's $3.49 per week for Saturday and Sunday which is more than newsstand. Considering that the paper is either not delivered (maybe) or stolen off my driveway (more likely) a couple times a month, the delivery premium is not worth it to me.
I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if they'll match the $2/wk I had before. Otherwise I'll pick one up at the store when I want one.
I subscribe to the Dispatch on Saturdays and Sundays. I just received the following postcard: "On Sunday, October 2, you as a Dispatch subscriber will receive the debut edition of our brand-new sports magazine, Dispatch Sports Extra!" So far so good. Then I read that I'll be charged $1.25 for the October issue, or "72% off the newsstand price." That's more per issue than Sports Illustrated!
I never subscribed to this magazine (because I've never heard of it, since the Dispatch just invented it). Now they're going to force it on me for $1.25 per issue? The fine print says I have to contact them to opt out.
I'm sure Dispatch is desperate for revenue, but this is sneaky and annoying.
