It has come to my attention that Columbus Dispatch top management has fired Columbus Monthly columnist Molly Willow effectively ending her time with the monthly city magazine. Her column running in this month's magazine will be her last.
Additionally, my sources tell me that Willow had recently filed a column that derided the casino tax money bailout for the hockey arena which handed millions over to the wealthy owners of the Blue Jackets, which includes Dispatch Printing Company owner John F. Wolfe. That column was spiked and will now never run.
You can feel free to draw your own conclusions about whether the firing of Willow and the subject matter of her spiked column are related.
For those of you scoring at home, Willow has now been fired twice by the Dispatch top brass with her original dismissal coming about two years ago when a round of layoffs hit the daily paper.
With the Wolfe family's near-monopoly on the print media in this town, it seems safe to assume this is only the first time of many that a voice questioning the Wolfe family's business interests will be purposefully silenced in this town.
