I found this interesting video clip that Cincinnati council member Laure Quinlivan made while traveling to severl different cities. Has Columbus totally put this on the back burner? Or is there still hope for the streetcar in Columbus?

I just feel like Columbus is not getting excited about this idea..Its a shame more is not in the works to start development on the streetcar.

Is there anything that you're proactively doing about it?

Being a supporter

Which means what? Fundraising? Campaigning? Working with local transportation groups?

Supporting by writing several emails and a letter to Columbus City Council. The streetcar needs to be pushed more for Columbus its ridiculous the lack of public transportation we have here.

You should come to this meeting on Wednesday...
There are other people in the city who share your concern. Its time to organize.

The plan called for service within a very small area. With the amount of money the Mayor and City Council said would be required to install the system, and the very limited service line, I wasn't too impressed.
Sure, it would've eventually (maybe) be expanded to serve the rest of Columbus, but for those of us who regularly use COTA, it sounded kind of pointless. Propose a full-service, far-reaching system, and I'll get excited about it.

They have heavy rail and commuter rail.

Commuter rail = light rail to be fair.
I'd also consider the subway system to be a form of light rail as it does not exist only underground, but connects directly to the light rail system in places.Posted 1 year ago # -

Here's my summary, which mostly references the American Public Transportation Association definitions:

If you want to wait for good public transit have fun with that. Meanwhile, you can buy a scooter or ride a bike with ease to numerous places if you live in the urban core. Just today I rode up High and made a stop on the way north to Clintonville. Last weekend I biked Downtown to Go West! on the excellent W Broad bike lanes all without a single honk, not that that would deter me. I'm actually glad we didn't get a streetcar because I wouldn't have bothered looking for other ways to get around aside from a car, which I'm glad I was able to leave behind. What would I have done instead? Pay $3.50 to wait around for COTA to head somewhere and then wait around for the bus to take me back at a much slower pace? Take transportation matters into your own hands; it's affordable and fun. I'm always around if anyone wants to go the bike route and get cycling lessons. Rail shmail.

It would be stupid to NOT put rail down High.... unfortunately be have a lot of citizens here who like the way things are. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
I agree with Columbusite, but I also think we need to tackle both birds... (biking infrastructure & rail) BADLY.

Columbusite is not interested in multi-modal transit. He pushes a bikes-only agenda and doesn't want rail, cars, buses, planes, or anything else with more than 2 wheels.

Rail shmail. As much as I agree that cycling is good and easy in this town, reality doesn't match your idealism. People get old, they get sick, they get injured, they just don't feel like hoping on a bike or the distance is a bit much. Having rail gives us an option between cycling/walking and driving everywhere, an option much more attractive to a broader population.
