Day to Discovery: Holiday Shop Around
Dates: December 8, 2012
Location: Discovery District
Hours: Saturday 1-7 p.m.
As central Ohioans deck their halls for the holiday season, Columbus' Discovery District will spruce up for the season as never before. Merchants from the various non-profit organizations in the area located in the eastern part of downtown have joined together to create a fun-filled Day to Discover: Holiday ShopAround. It will include free trolley rides through the Discovery District with the trolley making stops at a dozen area gift shops at cultural institutions and businesses. While adults will have lots of holiday shopping opportunities, there will be fun for the kids as well. Children can visit with the Nutcracker characters from BalletMet and make a stop at the Columbus Metropolitan Library to see the special holiday train display. At the Shedd Theatre, CATCO is presenting the play ""The Never Ending Story"" for which families can purchase tickets. The trolleys will also be making stops at the 2nd annual Treasures of Town Street, supporting Columbus Landmarks Foundation and the famous Topiary Garden. As a special treat this year, the Topiary Garden will feature some holiday light-decorated landscaping for the first time in its history. The event will culminate at State Auto's annual life-size Nativity display and Christmas lights that has been the holiday centerpiece of the community since the 1930s. At 7 p.m., there will be a live music performance by the Columbus State Gospel Choir at the outdoor Nativity display.
