The bike rack situation in downtown Columbus near Broad and High keeps getting worse and worse. When I first started working here five years ago, there were dozens of bike racks. Now there are only six. Soon there will be only four.
I ride my bike when it is not raining or snowing and, until this morning, I have been locking it up at a bike rack on Pearl Alley right at Gay Street. This morning, I got to my usual tie-up spot and got an unpleasant surprise. The two bike racks there had duct tape over them and signs on them saying that the racks were going to be removed and that we should use the other bike racks on Gay Street. I went looking and found that there were three racks in front of Cafe Brioso and one in front of Vorys Sater.
I assume that the Pearl Alley bike racks were removed in order to make the area better for the Pearl Alley Market. But this is unnecessary. They could have bike racks AND the market. My bike has been quite happy behind the stalls for the last few years. But this city has better ideas. One parking area for two wheeled vehicles was removed from Lynne Alley so that they could put three dumpsters there. Wow...that's nice.
What is wrong with this city government? Don't they want people to ride bikes and be green?
