Was that the pine beer in the can? A different flavor profile tha a PBR, no? It reminded me of an IPA.Well, an American Pale Alea, but yeah basically. It was the Pine Belt pale ale.
While I'm on this topic, the beer selection was really cool in general. As usual there were interesting beers in all price ranges: I did a double-take when I saw both Blatz and Old Style on the menu, especially when I noticed that they were next to Saison Dupont.
And Somer, if you want to get Southern Star pint glasses, it looks like they do sell them at their brewery. You might want to call and ask if they can ship them to you.

I just got back. I wasn't able to make it last night. And because I have to head to the airport in a few minutes, I was worried that if there was a line again, I wouldn't make it tonight. But I did. And it was fantastic! I had an Ohioana and Razzle Dazzle dog, fried leeks, and a red slushie with rum. All were terrific.
I'm so excited that this is as close to my house as it is. The fact that it's right on my walk home is going to be really really dangerous. I'm super excited to go back and try everything else on the menu. My one friend and I figured that it'll take slightly over nine trips to try everything, if you get two different dogs each time. (nine trips will leave one dog remaining)

Anne & I went for dinner. I tried the T-Dog, Jumbo-sized. Good stuff! The Rick Astley drink (Sweet Tea Vodka & Lemonade) was tasty too. Could see myself getting Rick Rolled on those one night. ;)
The most amazing thing though is the fact that on a Sunday at 6pm this place had a wait (short one) for tables. There is a little foot traffic around here, and the area is typically dead on weekends. Great to have something move in that will bring a little bit of vibrancy back. It looked like Little Palace was closed next door too. I imagine they'd get some spillover if they were open tonight.
Big thanks to everyone involved in bringing a little bit more life back into downtown. :D

Def want to visit this place soon....great concept.

I am scheduling the entirety of my existence around when I can return to DF's.
AND--- what an inspired way to feed folks on the cheap in this crappy economy, in a sleepy part of town.
Madame Ruby says--- you don't need to journey to the basement of the Alamo to get an awesome meal in Columbus for $3!!

It's a shame Little Palace seems to have positioned DF's as their "adversary". Otherwise there could be some fun back & forth synergy between the two restaurants. But yeah, it's a great magnet to draw in some fresh activity into an otherwise overlooked (by me, anyway) pocket of downtown.
I grilled some hot dogs for lunch yesterday, and my cheese/mayo/mustard combo just seemed flat-out boring now.

I was there last night with my fiancée also. Unlike most people I have sorta a mixed review. I got the whoa nelly and the dog from hell. I loved the whoa nelly, but the dog from hell was not my taste. I love spicy stuff but the cauliflower and carrots soaked in the vinegar was just not my flavor. The fiancée was also not 100% excited about the two she tried. We'll be back for sure, but not rushing to it just yet.
Really positive note, like walker said, it was packed!

When I walked by last week they had a RED (from Columbus health) tag saying it was closed. So It had to of been pretty nasty (and I ate there a few weeks ago!).

Rumor has it that the people who run Little Palace were responsible for creating as many roadblocks as possible to delay the opening of DF's…apparently they don't like the idea of "competition" on their block, which is a little short-sighted. & I guess they just added a hot dog menu to their offerings! LOL. It's poetic justice that they have a red tag on their door during all this new traffic.

thanks for the recommendation, and no we got tots instead of mac and cheese. I'll try that out next time.
anyone had The Nickola? The was my third choice, but I couldn't eat more than 2 dogs sober.

My first time was yesterday and I had the Classy Lady with the cheese sauce and chips - it was so delicious! - and split the tots, mac 'n cheese and baked beans with my friend who had the Boston dog (I think that's what it was).
The food was so yummy, I can't wait to go back. The mac 'n cheese was to die for.

One observation that a friend and I had was that DF's is bringing the Lessner-cult followers (sorry) deeper into downtown AND tapping into a new market by having a family friendly atmosphere. Instead of stenciled scorpions, there are incredibly awesome murals of 80's music and baseball icons! I had so much fun naming as many baseball players as I could (scored 90%- idea for a promo :). There were two families in there on Friday night, definitely something I havent seen before at the other establishments.

+1 kid friendly. I could also see this becoming a destination for all the Greyhound bus riders coming out of the nearby station.

I've always experienced good service and seldom witnessed any rowdiness. I believe you're speaking to the decor at Surly Girl and Betty's. I'm just stating that I'd bring a child to either location.
A place doesn't have to be painted up like a circus to be family friendly. I do love the DF decor.

Honestly, Ro, it seems more family-friendly to me because there's more lateral space for moving around. Hard to accomodate a high chair or a kid in your lap when Betty's or Surly is really busy, which is... all the time it seems :). They are just long, narrow spaces with not lots of leeway.
I will say that I think the tiny spaces work in a different way; they really communicate "busy urban hangout" to me.

Sure. None of the other places are Satan's Lair. DF's is just more accomodating.
