Hey! The Bunn frozen drink machine was put into operation today, just one more tasty item on the menu.

The culinary team is prepping these roasted peppers for this week's opening.

I just talked to Liz on the phone about 10 minutes ago. Sounds like everything is 100% GO. ;)

I tried out the Hot Bollywood (Spicy Mango Chutney) and the Zippity Zam (Roasted Red Peppers and Sriracha cream cheese.) They were both so good. I think I'm addicted....

Wow guys! What an opening. Liz, Harold and team were in form tonight for their opening day. I figured the line would wind out the door today, and it did. This is certainly a testament to her amazing character, the great food, and to the incredible people she employs.
I arrived early for the friends and family/CU party and enjoyed every minute of it. Mayor Coleman stopped by today to gnaw a dog too.
Through the course of the day, I had a Zippity Zam, Seoul Dog, The Nicola, True Love Always and the amazing fried leeks. Old Style and Blatz, as well as a pine beer were my select beers tonight.

Paul and I finally said "to hell with the crowds" and headed out around 11pm to give it a try on opening day.
Lots of CU folks still there when we stopped in, seemingly enjoying the vibe as much as we did.
My pics didn't come out well (too dark, I took some with flash but they don't do the food justice), but first impressions?
Killer drinks. I loved my Alabama Slammer, and Paul was just as pleased with his Reign in Blood. Great hot dogs. We got a selection to try and shared. Chicago Dog was my favorite, with the one with peppers and cream cheese coming in 2nd, followed closely by the Seoul Dog, the Whoa Nellie and the Nicola. The buns were of the super-soft, get stuck in your teeth variety, while the dogs themselves were of the great snap, nice spicy flavor, very juicy variety. And a Jumbo dog is more dog than you think, folks. We were well stuffed before we made it through our combined 5 dogs. Ended up taking half of them home with us. They didn't have the fried leeks or slushies when we went in (looks like you early birds cleaned them out!), but hopefully next time. :)
Service was great, food came quickly, and it was nice to see familiar faces, including that of Liz and Harold. Congrats, guys, on a great opening! Glad it finally came to fruition, after all the delays. It was definitely worth the wait!

My girlfriend and I were there Thursday right at 4pm...had the Dog From Hell, the Sriracha Slaw Dog, Chicago, Whoa Nellie! and the T-Dog. All were fantastic...my recommendation: add a drizzle of Texas Pete to Whoa Nellie! (brisket and BBQ sauce) and the T-Dog (bacon, roasted red pepper and sharp cheddar cheese)...the hot sauce makes them exploded with flavor...AWESOME! Great job Liz and congrats to the crew!

...my recommendation:
How about a falafel dog made from your homemade stock? No kidding - there was a Middle Eastern restaurant on Cleveland Avenue (now gone) that served falafel on a hot dog bun with a pickle spear down the center, for enhanced flavor, texture and juiciness. You should try it.

Hmmm.....interesting idea....I'll see if I can sell the idea to Liz and the crew! I'm kidding of course...I'm sure they will come up with an even better recipe, but I'll work on it!

Got in last night. Really loved it. The service was great. I will be back many times. What is the policy on carryout orders? I can totally see myself ordering berfore many football games this fall.

I also saw someone pick up a carry out order when I was there.

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but I was astounded and delighted that Dirty Frank's has several menu items named after Pee-Wee-related characters!
