We all assumed the story was about people with spring fever enjoying the loverly weather and beer on a Monday - that would make more sense, right? And it would be about equally newsworthy...

Dine Original's Restaurant Week - The Top Steakhouse
Last night we visited an old favorite. The Top Steakhouse is about as retro as you can get. And since retro is really "in" right now, it is “the place to beâ€Â! We took my niece and nephew (this would be the niece that just gave my sister a kidney!). We really wanted to treat them to a nice dinner out so they could relax and have fun. We also wanted to thank Tashia, just from the two of us. We love her so much and her generosity is amazing!

Got back from a FANTASTIC Black Creek Bistro lunch with tourist19. The meatloaf dish was insanely good and the service was fun. One of the best things about going to a new place with a regular is that I get to see the staff get relaxed and a little silly. It was a treat to try new food with a new CU friend!

Yay, so glad you enjoyed it! It was a great lunch :-) The meatloaf roulade was so tasty I hope they add it to the menu as a regular special.
I also stopped in at the Burgundy Room to try their special the other night with my part-time roommate. We had the arugula salad followed by lamb meatballs (off the happy hour menu), the bacon wrapped sirloin followed those and we finished off with the flourless chocolate cake. Everything was wonderful, but sauce that was created when the steak juices mixed with the crab bearnaise was possibly one of the best things ever. I had to get some bread so I could eat every drop.
I wish i had more time and more funds to get to more places!

We ate at Basi Italia on Monday. The wild boar ragu was over what they called gnocchi but it was more like potato raviolis filled with a cheesy potato mixture, so good! Starter salad was a little plain, but the berry cobbler dessert was perfect for this spring weather. Highly recommend. We also ate at Surly Girl, I had the stuffed jalapenos and the tuna noodle casserole (which was very rich and there was enough leftovers for two more meals!). Other than the cheese overload between the two courses (not necessarily a bad thing) it was very tasty. Going to Deepwood tonight, cannot wait!

Luce in Powell was outstanding. You can't go wrong on the first course, as both the soup and salad were solid. The lamb lollipops/mushroom risotto were amazing, and the short ribs were also great, minus the very strange fried leek/field grass garnish. And the desserts were both top shelf too.
Overall, we were very pleased with the food and the service, and it looks like they have overcome some of the issues of the past. If you're looking for one more good meal for this week tonight and tomorrow, its worth the trip to Powell.

I was a little bummed because Anne & I had reservations at Alana's on Tuesday, but they were not open due to some scheduling conflicts. Alana asked to move our DOC Week reservation to a date later this week, but we were busy having a baby.
So... I got an unexpected phone call today from Alana requesting that I stop by at 5pm today and pick up a little dinner-for-two to go. Hooray!
Excited to try it out! Even if we are eating at home. ;)
