The system will span 3.4 miles, and construction is slated to begin later this year.
Twelve stations are planned along the route, which officials estimate would be up and running by 2013.
3.4 miles west of detroit?
I'd rather be dropped in Bagdad. But you have to start somewhere, and they plan to expand on it after that.
West? More NNW. 3.4 miles would put you right past Midtown and Wayne state. Not bad. I'd still ride it. Hit the galleries and restaurants up in Midtown. And then head downtown for concerts/shows/clubs
I'd love to see it hit Ferdale and Royal Oak. I wonder if they have plans for Michigan or Jefferson aves?
Midtown? There is nothing in Midtown, wayne state has the most boring campus on earth. This will be the biggest disaster on earth for multiple reasons.
It is going to run from new center to downtown. ok, why would anyone care about going from new center to downtown? What mass of people will do this? no one makes that trip.
It sounds like you know something about the city, and if you do you know its a pretty racist city on both sides. Blacks fear whites, and whites fear blacks. Now, lets assume it would run all the way to royal oak, or better yet birmingham. Why would people want to go downtown in the first place? Work? There will be nothing left in a few years. GM is down to what 1000 people in the ren cen? Comerica is fully vacating the 1DC tower with some folks going to the burbs, some going to dallas, and some folks going to the building on lafayette. Barely anyone works downtown anymore, no one needs to commute there. You know the comerica tower at 1DC? That building after comerica leaves will have an occupancy of 19%, fucking 19% occupancy for the nicest building in downtown detroit. Arthur andersen left, e & y left, comerica left. I mean come on.
Second of all, the train would have a majority of black people riding within the city. Knowing how the detroit area is, I can gurantee you with the number of black people riding it, whites from royal oak will not ride this train at all.
The only people that will use the train are the dirty hipsters in midtown.
BTW. what galleries and restaurants are in midtown? Midtown offers nothing to anyone.
