I wasn't going to look, but now I have, and would like for you to caption all the photos on Flickr from henceforth. *laughter & tears*

One of my favorite coffeehouses is not too far from Yellow Springs (15 minutes) in the small town of Cedarville. It is called Stoney Creek Roasters and it is located right on the creek with a beautiful, beautiful patio. Plus, there is a waterfall about the size of Hayden Falls right outside of town on US 42.
Another wilderness option is by Mansfield and Loudonville. There you are able to hike and canoe along the Mohican River. Plus, Malabar Farms is semi-nearby. Downtown Mansfield has a carrousel and a neat diner within walking distance for coney dogs:

And, this is not too far from Amish Country.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. That dummy museum would for sure give us nightmares. Those things creep me out.
I lived in Mansfield for a big chunk of my life so I've done pretty much everything Mansfield and the surrounding areas have to offer. I guess the grass is always greener because when I lived there, I looked for escape routes every chance I had.

When I was a little older than your son, I moved to Ohio.
My fondest trips from that time period were going to the show caves around here.
Olentangy was great because it was close by, but the Ohio Caverns were so much better.
They are perfect for a hot summer day as the interiors are crisp.
Pack a picnic, eat lunch outside & then go check the caves out.

We go to the caves every summer! They are perfect for those super sticky days when you've seen every kid-friendly movie in the theaters.
We went to Yellow Springs this afternoon and had a great time. He was in heaven checking out the bookstores, comic book shops and toy store and was more than intrigued by the wares at the Import House. I had to intervene when I saw him picking out incense sticks to buy with the $5 in his pocket. I can't start that up yet.
