To keep from derailing other discussions, here is the article I am referring to. It's terribly written, tacky, and pointless. David defends his article with this:
A journalist's job is to seek truth and report it, and sometimes that involves going to a dark place. I could never have interviewed a working prostitute, and I needed to know that my suspicions were correct. Posing as a "john" was the only way for me to get the confirmation that I needed to write the story.
As a reader, I find this laughable, and I'd love to hear a journalist's perspective on it. Although I'm probably a better investigative journalist than David, because I could have interviewed a prostitute without pretending to hire her and I know that the man in the article most likely really was her driver and not her pimp.
