I give props to BoMA for booking major international talent when no one else will put up the money; but why does is always have to be Pop/EDM duche bags?
Why not do a night with King Britt, Marques Wyatt, and Uneaq? It would be such an eclectic show; you could probably get attendance from all over Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana/Pennsylvania. You could probably get the three of them for a combined price comperable to PVD or Tiesto.
I am dying to go to a "big show" but they always gotta bring in the European Uber-DJs... it drives me crazy.
Donnie has booked some really awesome underground cult-status acts such as Hercules & Love Affair and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem with less than stellar results. Treasure Fingers could barely fill the back room at Spice Bar, and BoMA is a MASSIVE room that feels empty unless you have a jam-packed attendance. As much as I love & respect DJ's such as King Britt & Marques Wyatt, you'd have one big room with very few people in it, trust me. 100 hardcore fans doesn't cut it at such a venue.
Bingo.. Douchebags are all Columbus will support (Though I did see King Britt moving asses in the front patio at Space last summer, but whatever).
Long gone are the days of multi-headliner underground parties with DJs from Detroit, Chicago, Columbus and elsewhere covering styles like house, techno, drum & bass, ghettotech and beyond. These were the parties that would pull in people from all over. I remember a few that would have easily blown out BoMA.
All you're gonna see at clubs around here are cheeseball "edm prodouchas" playing their lamest Christopher Cross dance remixes or trance or whatever horrible shit they're pushing now.
If you want to get to see good dance music, prepare to drive to Detroit or Chicago or some other big city.
In that vein, Octave One are playing Pittsburgh, Nov. 21st and I'm guessing they'll be great. I'm not sure how big the crowd will be, but it'll probably be worth the drive: http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/octave-one-live-lawrenceville-moose-pittsburgh-sat-112109
