WOSU’s King Lincoln Documentary Airs Tuesday

The third installation of the Columbus Neighborhoods documentary series airs tomorrow night at 9pm on WOSU-TV. This edition focuses on the King-Lincoln District. Following the format of the first two in the series, this documentary provides a detailed look at the history of this neighborhood, interviews with current residents about the present, and a glimpse into what the future holds for this area.

It was a very interesting show. I really liked the comments by the developer (Waddy?) and the info about the murals (which I love).
It was intrigued by the discussion of the grocery stores. We talk about it a lot here on CU but the conversation seems to lack some of the historical background brought up by this documentary. The failed attempt to 'make it happen' and then the loss of the much smaller community IGA was an eye opener.

Yeah, I loved the focus on the musical and artistic history of the neighborhood. And the spotlight on the murals by Jeff Abraxas was both wonderful and tragic.
The neighborhood definitely has a long way to go, and I agree with the sentiment that it will never be the same as it once was, but I think there's a lot of potential for this neighborhood to become something new and equally as interested and engaging and community-focused as it was back in its heyday.

Wow, it was a bit depressing, but also inspiring. This is a nieghborhood with a legacy, I hope we can fit in their shoes. I would have loved to experience the KLD in the 50's,60's and early 70's. I really like this series.
The Elijah Pierce piece kind of made me misty eyed. He was active until 1984. I think we need to step up a bit. This nieghborhood was built with some real constitutional fortitude.

Like the first two, I thought it pretty boring.
while the neighborhood names change, the story is always the same:
nice early/mid 20th century neighborhood > highway > cheap ghetto > yuppies save the day.
I'd like to see more about the 19th century - the early beginnings of the neighborhoods.
Also, there's disappointingly little in these series about what makes Columbus special. You could insert the neighborhood names for any midwestern city in these stories.

That is kind of why I liked this one. I don't think they are saying yuppies 'saved the day'. If you think you can insert any midwestern city then you are not paying attention. It is pretty remarkable the energy that this neighborhood once had. I hope the next generations don't see it as just a good real estate deal.
