Join us on Thursday, January 15th at The King Arts Complex in the heart of the King Lincoln District as we partake in the opening of their newest art exhibit. The show is titled "The Men, the Message, the Music, and the Movement: Martin, Malcolm, and Marley" and runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. There will be complimentary wine and appetizers at the opening.

at Elijah Pierce Gallery

Co- Curated by Deidre Hamlar with George Miller, founder Black Arts Plus, Columbus, Ohio, this exhibition presents images and musical reflections of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Bob Marley, and a host of other phenomenal activist-leaders. Complemented by film, musical tributes, spoken presentations and panels, this exhibit will provide an opportunity to explore the various messages imbedded within the music, images and throughout the movements. Come experience the impact of these icons!

This is coming up next week. I'm eager to get some feedback as this is not the typical CU meetup. I thought we'd experiment with some new formats and venues and ideas.

What do people think of doing art exhibit meetups? Any ideas for future locations? The KAC was extremely accommodating, offering to cater for free and provide wine for free, so I think this will be a good spot to try this out.

Thoughts?

I think i will be attending this. I'm sharing a car with my brother at the moment and I'm not sure how it s going to work out. But I ll be there either in spirit or physical manifestation.

I think art exhibit meet ups are an excellent idea, conversation pieces included. I unfortunately have a conflicting event that night and won't be able to make it. I do hope it's successful so you'll try another in the future that I hopefully can attend.

Cool, thanks for the feedback all. I'd like to make this a regular thing and hit up some of the other galleries around town that feel like they sometimes get overlooked. Perhaps do the next one at the Lyle gallery? ;)

While there, make sure you get information about the upcoming event from Kristina Isabelle Dance Company on the 24th called Levels and Lines...particularly Enzo, because it's stilts, EDM, all sorts of crazy stuff that is right up her alley.

p.s. Kristina is one of the directors of HighJinx.

I love Kristina SO much!!! There were HighJinx performers at NYE!!!
I just received an invite to this event and you are absolutely right...my entire life will evolve around this event...I am so excited!!! I plan to go on Thursday too!

A clip of last year's Levels and Lines is on YouTube if anyone would like a preview of what to expect (although this year's show is surely different), it is amazing stuff. We're quite fortunate to have a troupe like HighJinks locally. They're endlessly creative and innovative. Some new things they're working on for later this year are going to blow you away.

I am looking forward to this event, especially because I cannot make it to the Wednesday HH the following week. This type of venue appeals to me ( maybe bc I spend too much time in a bar already ;)). I am bringing a few gals along with me too I think- weather permitting. Let's hope it doesn't get too gnarly& keep folks away.

We're still on for tonight! Looks like we're not getting anymore snowfall today, and the roads over here don't look too shabby this morning.

Big thanks to everyone who braved the bitter cold to come out! Was good to see everyone!

I mentioned to a few people that we'd like to do more art gallery events at locations "off the beaten path", so if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post them here. I'm thinking the Lyle Gallery is a sure shot, and there's a few smaller galleries in GV that get overlooked sometimes.
