I adore this bar! No televisions, swanky decoration, comfy couches and incredibly friendly service. Oh, and the Sarah Vaughan Chipotle Dip is delicious. We'll be there.

I just wish they'd do something to the exterior. I don't know if it's a matter of money, or a matter of the building owner not being in the same boat as the business owner (if they are two different people) but it's not very attractive.
I realize that Jazz Bars don't usually need windows and ample light, but a lot of it looks like plywood painted black and a jumbo version of a calendar of events put together in MS Word on top. Not very sexy. :(

That whole corner is sketchy-looking... it extends out to The Rooming House and Saigon Palace, and then if I remember correctly, there's some kind of weird unlabeled auto body shop tucked in an alley back there.
Not saying anything about the James Club 88, just that its exterior is still the nicest on that block.

BTW - Has anyone been to a soul food Sunday here (listed as 1st Sunday's on the website)? Carl spent over a decade living in Georgia, and would love an occasional authentic local connection...

Adrienne Hindmarsh Duo's Last Performance
This Saturday, Jan. 17, will be the Adrienne Hindmarsh Duo's last performance at James' Club and one of their last performances in Columbus and the US for a while. The Duo has just booked a five month gig on the Grand Princess Cruise Ship!! Although we will miss them terribly, we are very happy for them and wish them great success!! Come out and say bon voyage (or just say good by and good luck and Godspeed, etc.)

I just realized that this is the same night as the LOST premiere. I'll be DVR-ing it though. That makes it a plus that they don't have TVs so I won't inadvertently see part of the show and ruin it for myself.

Place looks awesome! I'd love to come but I'm under the weather and called off sick. Even though I feel up to drinkin a few, it just wouldn't be right to get all Don Drapered out on a sick day. Plus, I'll spare the Underground from my sickness. ;)

I am so glad you are going to the James. We consider it our neighborhood place and love it. There are challenges with the other tenants on the block. Don't let that discourage you. This is a fun place with a great vibe and really fun people.
