I couldnt have written this better if i tried....
I am so sick and tired of hearing Strickland say these phrases it makes my head hurt:
From the Dispatch: When asked last week whether it is a foregone conclusion that the use of one-time money would require a tax increase in the future, the governor flatly replied, "No, it is not.
"There are those who thought I would have to raise taxes this time," Strickland said. "I'm a creative, innovative decision-maker."
Hmm. Let's dissect that last line (my favorite quote thus far in his reign as Gov by the way) shall we?
"I'm a creative, innovative decision-maker."
Really? Is that what you are going with? Are you sure? Come on. Really?
How can he even say that line with a straight face??? It makes me giggle.
"I'm a creative, innovative decision-maker." Tee hee hee. Sorry. I just can't help myself.
Reality check:
The budget is $54.7 billion
He resorted to being Ohio's "Beggar-in-Chief" to the point of even angering fellow dems, but he is a very good beggar (did he mean to say he was a creative, innovative beggar instead of creative, innovative decision-maker? sorry. i digress) and he secured $8.2 billion for Ohio from the federal stimulus package (partly on false pretenses I might add...that part actually was creative & innovative) and $5.8 billion of that $8.2 billion (100% of it is one time money) is going into the $54.7 billion figure listed above.
He is creatively and innovatively draining the entire $948 million from Ohio's rainy day fund as well.
So, in summary for those of you riding the short bus, he is using $7 billion in one time money for locking us into long-term financial commitments for this state.
$7 billion of the $54.7 billion is money that cannot be relied on one iota in the future.
If that is creative and innovative decision-making then hell I would have to say that Kathleen Chandler could even be Governor in this current situation and look like she is a creative and innovative decision-maker. Is she? I didn't think she was, but maybe I am wrong on that, too.
Give me a break.
It isn't creative and innovative decision-making.
It is shameful, irresponsible and completely disingenuous.
He knows with 100% certainty that this is a re-election ploy and as soon as he gets re-elected you can rest assured that Ohio will be facing its largest tax increase in its history.
I hope he at least has the common courtesy to include K-Y jelly in the next budget. If the Governor has his way we are all going to need it.
