Is anyone going? Got invited to join a team, but really don't know much about it (other than it's for a great cause & there's lots of beer involved!)

Crawl For Cancer
Saturday, May 30th.Appears to be a general fund-raising event for a few cancer orgs:
- Eden's Hope - Neuroblastoma
- Jimmy V Foundation
- Leukemia & Lymphoma SocietyBar hopping across the usual suspects on Park Street.
I agree, the silence surrounding the event is deafening. This is at least the 2nd annual. I'm on a team, but otherwise not really invested in the event. We'll see how it goes.

Wasn't this quite controversial last year? Maybe they're trying to keep it on the DL.

:OAh, sadly, the only link I have is my friend Adam (think Gen. X Hunter Thompson lawyer) who has his finger on the pulse of everything controversial and unsavory. (Everyone should have such a friend!)
Honavery was right, this does seem to be on the DL. Was very hard to get details, which is why I posted here...All I know is that teams of 10-12 people go to five bars and drink 4 pitchers of beer at before moving on...each person pays $30, which goes towards various cancer orgs, as mellotron noted (:))
I think it is too late to register, but will share details (well, what I can remember) after event. Thanks for your help, guys!
ps. (Walker, you would like Adam - he got me my own copy of Idiocracy as soon as it was available - love that movie!)
pps. Adam assures me there are tokens for cab rides home (which I think was a response to the controversy of previous crawls.)

Had a great time with this today. In fact, at Bar Louie's we ran into Eden's parents of the Eden's Hope Foundation. Somewhat emotional, but mostly they were just so enamered with the turnout.
This would have been a different event had we bounced from bar to bar anonymously. But meeting the parents of the child for whose disease we raised money for really gave meaning to the event.

Crawl for Cancer was awesome - So great to see so many people out there for such a good cause!
I made some inquiries as to why not much was heard about this event, and, basically was told that registration begins a couple of months earlier and fills up in no time...???
Would love to do it again next year - hopefully will have more advance notice & time to get some teams together.
And, in a random and shallow footnote, this event proved to be - serendipitously - an insightful sociological experiment. I was on team "Ramrod" (Super Troopers) and we all had to wear aviators and mustaches...
I don't know if it was the spirit glue or the hirsutism, but about an hour into the event, we ladies began exhibiting a strange bravado...crossing streets without looking, squaring shoulders & thrusting chins, muttering "sup" in acknowledgement of others...and I've never received more attention from both sexes...
Oh, yeah, there's power in the " 'stache..."
ps. Did take advantage of the cab voucher home... :-)

Saw them yesterday and wondered why they weren't on all fours.

Hi everyone, JP here - the guy who heads up the Crawl For Cancer here in Cbus.
My personal apologies for those of you who have found details around the event slow to materialize. I've tried my hardest to put this together in my spare time and word of mouth can only reach so many people =]
If you head to http://www.crawlforcancer.org, you can find out about this year's event which will be on Saturday, May 29 and you can also sign up for important email notices. You'll probably see us in Columbus Alive again this year and likewise with posters and flyers at all the participating bars leading up to the event (we're adding some new ones this year!).
Registration opens on March 22 and last year we sold out in three weeks so if you're thinking about participating (which you absolutely should - it's the most fun I've ever had at a fundraiser), you might want to start getting your team together!
Hope to see you there.
