Driving along I-670 today, I noticed the crane for the new Hilton Columbus Downtown appears to be ready for use. Likewise, upon traveling up 315, I couldn't help but notice the massive crane for the OSU medical center expansion is also up.

I love having cranes makeup the cityscape. It's such a concrete manifestation of growth and progress. Pair these newest additions to the ongoing construction at Nationwide Childrens and the Abagail, and things are looking really good around the central part of the city!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets waaay to excited about seeing all the cranes in the air =)

Edit: and the webpage setup for that hospital is indescribably awful...

Yea i know, I could hardly see it or control it.

I'm really excited for cranes in the air! Though I wish there would be more in downtown.

Cranespotting is fun, but I always can't help but wonder what it would be like to see a tall building turned sideways into a more spread out development.

The whole Arena District could have possibly been stacked into one 30-story building. And it would be one building with a small footprint rather than an entire new neighborhood with acres of dense urban development.

Skyscrapers are good for bragging rights and eyecandy though, so hooray to both of those things I reckon. ;)

Cranespotting is fun, but I always can't help but wonder what it would be like to see a tall building turned sideways into a more spread out development.

The nice thing about the aforementioned projects, except for maybe the Abigail, is that none of them are really feasible as "spread out" projects. The OSU med center, Children's, and the Hilton would wipe out tons of existing space to create a "spread out" development. So there's really no wondering for me, in the meantime I'll continue enjoying passing by the cranes in eager anticipation :).

Here's a silly association - when I was maybe 12 years old I watched some British horror movie about some evil demon that lived in the ground and was disturbed by a construction project, and one of those cranes figured in the climax.

Other than that, when they're idle they make great weathervanes.

Cranes will be on site in the next few months in the Short North. The Wood Companies are about to add three floors to our building. I know it's not a huge building but it is adding density. Let's keep building up on High St and filling in the surrounding neighborhoods.
