The Shortlist Music Prize (awarded to the 'best' American album that when nominated had fewer than 500,000 copies sold) has been on hiatus since 2007. Could the Columbus community revive something like this from the dead? I'm just brainstorming here; we could try to do something more similar to the Mercury or Polaris Prize and try to find the best album from Ohio -- and that 500,000 number seems awfully high? Both? An Ohio prize and a prize for best national album with fewer than 100,000 copies sold? It could lend a lot of credence to spreading our indie meme.
Thoughts?
