I used to think that the cota drivers had it easy and was over paided. Then after riding and talking to the drivers I relized that their job is not easy at all. If they are ealry to a stop it is a write up if they don't secure a disssabled passanger and help them in any way that's a write up too. If the annunciator doesen't work they are to call all stops on their routes if not thats a write up also. The drivers are also asked by the public where an adress is what bus do they need to ride. All of this and the driver is suppost to take with a smile. If a problem starts then a street superviser is called to handle it. The street superviser makes it quick when the problem is in the nice part of town but the resopnce time is 20 mins or longer in a bad part. Who knows what kind of trouble the driver can be in by that time. As far as pay they are close to what other transits are. With that statement made I mean Cleveland,Toledo,Cincinnatti not the cabs that OSU operaters. There is a differance between the two. So you can't compair the two because OSU has its own funds to operate and cota has taxpayers funds along with fair box and federal funds. Cota is non-profit cabs is it to make money or just cover operating cost. Next time we ride a cota bus remember use good manners and it will be a great ride.
You joined this board just to write this? K. Seems to me that you have a gripe with supervision. Does that justify a strike, leaving thousands of helpless people with no means of transportation?
By the way, non-profit does not mean "lose money". CABS is no more or less non-profit than COTA. And OSU is supported by taxpayers (just more of them) and users, same as COTA. So, yup, perfectly acceptable to compare them.

Agreed. It's similar work in similar conditions. Even being charitable ( kinda? ) and saying COTA passengers are more, ahem, problematic it's still comparable.

some of my customers fit that description and they are very well off.
I saw a post earlier about having unlicensed taxis (gypsy cabs, jitneys, etc..) here. And I'm am kinda of shocked that in a city of almost 900k, there isn't even a whiff of them. Please spare me the, "But it would be illegal" mumbo jumbo, I swear Columbus has more Mormons than Salt Lake City. Even though they are illegal most of the major cities have them. And they do a pretty good business too.
We have them you are not looking close enough or are looking in the wrong end of town.

What gets me are people who apparently support the strike also say they worry about people who have no other options. Those two don't match up for me. If service is critical, then I don't see how one can support a strike.
It's called nuance of issues. You don't have any.
I'm sorry but people from CU and other message boards who complain that COTA bus drivers endure abuse and other inhuman actions..STOP! COTA drivers aren't the ONLY ONES getting cussed at, spit at, etc etc in public transit around the U.S.A. STOP USING THIS AS A CRUTCH! Customer Service reps over at Teleperformance get verbally abused just as hard, as well a Social Workers around the county, who get physically abused! Yet they are making pennies compared to COTA drivers!
"A special meeting of the COTA Board of Trustees has been scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m."
Any guesses on what this is about?

Very nicely stereotyped. Glad that's all sorted out.

You should just have this as your opening statement to every post, it helps posters undestand that you really know what you're talking about.

Scabs? Given this thread, looks like there would be a lot of public support for that.
Weird. When there's a thread where there's support being shown for bike lanes or rail transit you're quick to dismiss it as an insignificant minority in terms of the larger public opinion.
Go figure.

I think at this point the only people who support the union are some of its members and a far left minority who looks at this as another area to support "their team". Its sad that people have to stick to their side of a political spectrum that hardcore.

WOSU described the board meeting as "next steps". Given the black eye with no service for RWB and the fractured union vote, I could see them bringing, scabs in to save face
Don't know about saving face; right now, between here and comments on FB and other sites it looks like the union is coming off very badly.
If anything, I'd guess there's public support for firing the strikers outright.
