I just want people to understand that if they use crosswalks and don't cross against the light they would not be hit. People don't understand that large trucks and busses take more time to stop and when someone pulls out in front of them or turn in front of them from the left to turn right. There would not be any accidents if people would learn to drive safely and not weave in and out and speed in heavy traffic. It is not just large vehicles that have accidents. Everyone should have to take refresher classes on driving safely.

This is just not true people mow people over all the time that are doing everything correct. COTA is on that list too

It was nice of the union rep to say in the paper that they didn't pick the date to coincide with R,W, & Boom in order to hold anyone hostage, when that is exactly what they are doing.
I hope they go on strike and let everyone see what a worthless public sector union does best.

It will be a failure of both sides to get their house in order. I am really pissed off at the whole picture. COTA has basically implemented automatic fare increases while the contract expired months ago. Despite the crappy economy neither the management or the union seem to think that solving this without involving their customers is a big deal. I am really losing faith in COTA - which is both sides. As a customer I shouldn't be forced to see what is behind the curtain.
I am glad we still have our car.

Cota is a disgrace, and has been for as long as I can remember.
I love Columbus, but public transport here is a joke.

It is interesting that they have been working without a contract renewal since August of 2011, but just now have decided to strike.

With or without COTA RW&B will still go on and there won't be a noticeable blip in attendence. Relax people, so a few people won't be able to get drunk and watch fireworks hardly a reason for civil unrest.

I would imagine July 3rd would be the start of a multi-day strike, no? Not just a one day thing?

COTA is going on strike. Accept it. Accept the fact that it will take a dent into our local economy. RW&B will be cancelled, Downtown will shut down like it did 10 years ago, and people will be out of work in Columbus, because those who have no cars will have no way to get from Point A (example: Bexley) to Point B (example: Worthington), just like the last strike in the early '90s.Won't work for everyone, but have a bike?

I take sympathy on those that this might impact but they are having plenty of time to make alternate arrangements.Any recommendations? Everyone who normally relies upon the bus for transit should just call a friend for rides to/from work for an indefinite amount of time?

I'm just asking what you're recommending when you say people should be making alternate arrangements.

The two options are find alternate transporatoin or not allow public utilities to strike.

It is not a solution, but it may help in a pinch.

Franklin County picks up the tab.

When the levy renewal comes up in four years, it will go down in flaming defeat, primarily because of the strike. COTA is as reliable as the front office for the Blue Jackets.
Columbus is a car city, and if you don't have a car or bike, you'll have to walk around in the blistery Mojave winter heat of Columbus, or phone/text a few friends to get you around.

As has been said, the inability of the union and management to do their jobs and work things out is being thrust on the ridership.
