I don't think it is fair to be against a development because of the fear that the elected city representatives, and their offices probably partially are incapable to do their job but even in the best case scenario they are massively behind that what is going on on the streets.

dont really understand that statement and when did jim mention anything about fearing city officials incapable of doing their jobs?
i think he was inquiring on who at the city will monitor the sound. city attorney? health dept?

its a good bet that even if the track was 60db or less after 10pm it will have no positive impact on residential property values north of 70 in franklinton. even with all the secondary development like hotels and restaurants. positive development has been happening due to the hard working home owners, several organizations like the FDA, and with the slew of new folks that have been moving into the neighborhood. would a quiet track impact values negatively? hmmm i wouldn't think so.... but if its loud then we can see all the progress come to a halt. new folks would shy away from moving in and the programs would to. the trickle effect would be devastating. after an investment like that has been made i doubt the city would really enforce the noise ord unless it was ungodly loud. they can also get a variance for the excessive noise which im sure they will.
its already known that city officials are turning a blind eye to the noise issue. we have been to the meetings.

im not really against the race track development although it may seem that way from my posts. i have nothing against racing as i am nissan datsun enthusiast. i have raced at CMS 7 or 8 times in the past several years for derby. i also have owned many 300z's from non turbo to twin. i currently have a fun little project going on right now. my point is the noise is a huge factor in this not only for me but the entire city of cols. i would love nothing more than to see a great development on mound st with hotels and restaurants. job creation for neighborhood folk and alike. lets just be responsible about it.

since no one has ever built a walled in track you really cant make that statement. my property is about a 1000 ft or so from 70 over the river. i notice the sound from it in winter more than the summer due to the absence of leaves and the lack of moisture in the air. one thing i do hear alot of in the spring,summer, and fall are motorcycles racing. unbelievably LOUD!!! my father lives at 18th and franklin in OTE. has been for about 20years or so. that part of 71 sits about oh 17 to 20 feet or so below all the surrounding area. the sound of bikes racing is again unbelievably LOUD. and these are 100 to 120hp motorcycles..... could not imagine 700 to 1000hp race cars. i use the OTE example because its the closet thing that i can think of that resembles this lowered track with a sound wall design. does it help with noise in ote? sure it does when cars are traveling at 55 to 65 mph with mufflers and engine rmps at 2000 to maybe 2900. those motorcycles though.... man at 7000 rpm and 100mph that shit is loud. walker im sure you can hear what im talking about. of course traffic 12 hours out of the day moves between 45 and 55 mph.

I'll go +2 on that statement.

Arshot has taken quite a bit of time to evaluate, consider, and create a plan that greatly minimizes the potential negative effects to the local community, but brings many positives. They're not leaving Central Ohio and to do something that would not only hurt the community, but hurt they're reputation just wouldn't make sense.

I would agree with the statement about the stupidly loud motorcycles that run around with illegally un-baffled exhausts, and totally irresponsible riders. They should water-board those dudes. Noise levels though are really not a result of horsepower. There are many 400-500 horsepower cars that could drive down the freeway near your home at 100mph, in the middle of a summer or winter evening, and you would never know it. The responsibility and risk will rest with the developer and operators to develop and maintain a controlled and responsible racing environment at the facility. Like mentioned earlier, it's pretty apparent that Arshot is aware of that fact, and has accepted it.

horsepower and modified engines produce huge amounts of noise. yes there are many 400 to 500 hp cars that can cruise at 100mph at 3000rpm and produce no noise with factory stock exhaust equipment...... lets be honest here people part of the attraction of going to a race is the noise. its part of the experience, thats just a fact that i guess we have to deal with if this project were to ever happen.

I don't really see the word or even the reference in his post to "monitoring". He asked who will shut them down and how long does that take. There are a few interpretation of his words, but I suppose he didn't ask the name of the person.

To address your concern about monitoring:
The event organizer monitors the noise level continuously at the track for each and every car. As far as I know this is not anything special in this case but quite normal at these kind of events. It is part of the car's preparation process to limit the noise otherwise the car will be disqualified.
I suppose they will set the noise limit at the track to a level what ensures that the noise will not to exceed the limit outside.

I'd like to add something here about the supposed "noise" that will be generated by the track. First off it is not like events will be running 24-7 all the time. Actually depending on the amount of events they have I suspect that a large majority of the time there will be no actual activity on the actual track itself. (considering that there are 7 days in a week and 24 hours in a day) Sorry if I am bringing up an obvious point there, but some people probably don't think about that. It's not like installing a "white noise" generator like the highway is.
On another note... anyone here been to an OSU football game? How loud is it OUTSIDE of the stadium... exactly... outside of the stadium you can hardly tell that on the INSIDE of the stadium it is a deafening 100db madhouse. There is some food for thought. OSU stadium just by being an oval holds the noise in and that is without a specific outer perimiter sound wall. Truthfully you can hear a train whistle further away than the noise from a stadium type event from my experience.

The new people here fronting for Arshot need to be careful. Brand new members who post repeatedly and vociferously on a controversial topic can damage credibility they may have otherwise achieved by going slow and seeming thoughtful.

On a good day, you can hear to crowd noise inside the stadium in the surrounding area. And that's just people.

I don't see anything here about post quantity. Just spread yourself around, introduce yourself and find some other topics of interest in addition to this. Those people are more credible because people know them offline and online. That friendship carries a lot of weight and trust they have earned.

I can respect that view. I have found the CU site to be a very good place to learn a bit about what's happening in and around town. Whoever created it has done a fine job. It's to bad that more folks don't know about the site.

I follow the Cooper discussions because I believe in what they are trying to do, and how they've gone about it. I also hate to see folks being misled about the true circumstances. I do not work for Arshot or any company that is a part of the Arshot corporation.

In my case, when a topic comes up that carries as much importance as I believe this one does, I'll be happy to participate in the discussion. I don't really post just to post though.

Ditto on what pylnrcr said.. I also am just a plain Columbus citizen. I'm a computer worker by trade. I'm all for development and jobs that don't cost the taxpayers money.. and this is exactly that opportunity. I hope that all that money that they are spending to demolish and re-build the City center area pans out. Even if it was a "stimulus funded" thing hopefully it is worth it. I'm sure that maintenance of that area once it is done however will turn into somethig that all of us in Columbus will pay for in the end. The casino.. the bridge... the train railway... cooper complex... to me they all add up to jobs and money being made in Columbus. So far 3 of the 4 projects are things that are already in the works. IMO this is just yet another way to help Columbus folks earn a living and lighten up the load on the un-employment line.
