Notes from German Village Society:
Cooper Hearing Is Tonight At 6 p.m.
The Board of Zoning Adjustment is scheduled to take up the issue of Cooper Stadium and a proposal to make it into a racetrack. The meeting is Tuesday, December 20, at 6 p.m. at Public Hearing Room, 757 Carolyn Avenue. The public is welcome at these meetings. The Cooper issue is 11th on the agenda. Anyone arriving after 7:30 p.m. will be turned away.
The German Village Society will be represented. The Society has taken the following position: We are concerned that the noise from racing could carry into German Village and compromise our quality of life. The developer has said that sound won't carry here, given the walls they plan to build, but how do we know for sure? We hope the BZA will do everything it can to impose conditions that will guarantee that no area, including German Village, will receive noise from the track.
The German Village Society is opposed to Cooper Stadium being turned into a racetrack. However, if the BZA is going to vote to support the project anyway, we feel very strongly that we need to be included in the list of locations that get noise testing sites; and additionally, we would encourage the city to take on legal responsibility for doing the noise testing.
