Hi Everyone, I am researching a project and am looking for information regarding a conservative facebook group that was founded in Columbus. It is called Take America Back 2010. Links are http://www.facebook.com/takeamericaback and http://www.takeamericaback2010.com .
I do not know much about Ohio politics but was surprised that Columbus would be the founding city for a large young conservative group.

why? there's more to Columbus than liberals...
meaning, we are a very diverse city in that regard, almost split 50/50 i would think.

Columbus is a very liberal city in a very conservative state, and it is surrounded by a ring of conservative suburbs. And in my experience, OSU is quite conservative for a college, perhaps because it draws a lot of students from the rural areas. So it's not particularly a surprise, even though you might expect something like that to more likely come from a place like Cincinnati.
Where are you from, and what is your interest in this based on?

Keep in mind too that people may come in and found a conservative group in the city, but when they're done they go home to Pickerington or Powell.

My interests are academic in nature. I am researching private media ownership. Specifically, what is the political relationship of media organizations and is it visible in the publisher's content.
In this case, the conservative group is founded by a college newspaper and a young professional magazine.

if it is U-Weekly, and you are researching links between the group's political content and the published content, I find:

However it is in line with the FoxTV vs FoxNews bifurcation, and the landscape of Conservatism is often defined without the religious right these days, so perhaps it all meshes.
As for it being based in Columbus, William Buckley published the National Review out of NYC for 50-years. Not that I am equating a web site selling faddish, novelty, imported, plastic bracelets with serious political commentary. But political ideology knows no geographical boundaries.

I don't think the recent plunge into ruin is due to Socialism. It was due to "Cowboy Capitalism Gone Wild."

Government "out of control." Yeah...shame on you "government" for finally addressing things like global warming and the fact that 45 million Americans don't have ANY health care. Apparently, "the government" was better when it sat on it's ass, waved the flag, and only helped the rich get richer. Geez...some people have a screwed up view of government.

It doesn't look as much like a 'large young conservative group' as a 'foreign-made plastic bracelet selling operation.' To learn about their motives, you should be asking Wayne Tee, not Columbus Underground.
Columbus has always had active Young Republican groups and there are plenty of youthful right wingers in OSU student government (USG).

What disturbs me the most about these "conservative" groups is that they're only now outraged at governmental overreach, and were all too happy to cheer it on when a Republican was in power.

Exactly. The Republicans started a multi-trillion dollar war that was unnecessary and slashed taxes for tycoons and transnational corporations and have since become deficit hawks after losing Congress and the White House.
