The emphasis wasn't able to be conveyed in text, but it was on "united"...and I think division thus far has been a pretty fair criticism of Obama's presidency.

The point is less "Glenn Beck is a genius" and more "even one of his biggest critics is acknowledging how effective it was"
ETA: about 30 million people watched it Rus, for an idea of the size of that number, its about 10 times the amount of people who watch Glenn Beck ;)

I don't doubt some did; guess just not many in my circle.
ETA: Given that the population of the US is around 307mil, that's about 10% of the US population. Seems likely I wouldn't know anyone who watched it.

I doubt she really intends to run for president - she hasn't demonstrated any effort to do the work, or to take on roles where she can build a political resume. I believe there's a narcissistic side of her who likes the idea of becoming president, but what it will actually take - the becoming versed on a myriad of foreign and domestic issues, doing media interviews, toning down the extreme statements and positions - she's not willing to do. I'm sure she'll come up with some excuse (the unfair liberal media). But, I'd say she's more of a one-trick pony - and very happy to get the money and attention that goes along with her act.

TUCSON, Ariz.  A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that Jared L. Loughner was not mentally competent to stand trial on charges of opening fire at a constituent event for an Arizona congresswoman in January, killing 6 and injuring 13.
I'm really torn on this, because I clearly don't want mentally handicapped or ill people being forced to stand trial when they're not competent...but this guy is a special kind of monster.

Remember that a decision of this nature, especially based on facts like this (the erratic behavior in the courtroom, etc., in addition to the formal psychiatric evaluation) does *not* mean that the guy walks free. It means that he will be committed to a high-security psychiatric ward, potentially for the rest of his life, without trial (or, alternatively, until he is sane enough to stand trial).
In other words, the judgment of the law remains that the guy needs to be removed from the streets--the particular facility to which he'll be committed is simply somewhat different in this circumstance.

I get that, but a high security psych ward sounds awfully nice for a guy who killed half a dozen people, including a child.
ETA: I'd really like him to spend some time in PMITA prison.

Giffords returns to House for debt vote

Washington (CNN) -- U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords returned to the floor of the House of Representatives Monday evening for the first time since she was grievously wounded during a January assassination attempt.
Giffords, D-Arizona, was met by thunderous applause from colleagues as she walked into the chamber to support a hard-fought bill that would raise the U.S. debt ceiling. Vice President Joe Biden was also on hand as she entered the House, escorted by her chief of staff and by Florida Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a close friend.
