Review: Commonwealth Sandwich Bar

The Commonwealth Sandwich Bar opened last spring, and I’ve been planning on trying it out ever since, but have failed to do so until now. Reviews have been mostly positive, and after it made the Columbus Underground list of “Best New Restaurants of 2011” I knew it was time to pay it a visit.

This IS a great place for some killer sandwiches, but man did I become the victim of Wednesday $5.00/sandwich day today. It took me an hour to get my lunch. Turns out some D-bag heard my name called out and claimed to be me (by name) and took off with my food. Once the kitchen and cashier was aware of the mistake, they were slow to fix it. Rather than "fire" my order right away, I was forced to wait while customers who ordered after the mistake was caught got their food. I love the place, but I'm not coming back on $5.00 Wednesdays. Aint worth saving the $3-4.

I'm the last person who posted about Commonwealth but I don't care. Since my last post I have been back three times. 2 times on non-Wednesdays and today on $5 cheapskate day. Each time I have had wonderful service and simply fricking fantastic sandwhiches. Village Idiot, Thai Schtick (I think), Bon Fire, Haute Hippy. I have no connection to whomever is behind Commonwealth. Just wanna chime in again about how great this tiny place's food is.

I went here this past Saturday and tried the chicken club and urban cowboy. Both were great! I love the location they choose between Gateway and Short North too. Its the perfect type restaurant to bridge the gap between the short north and campus

Their tasty creations remind me of Food Network's impassioned Sandwich King Jeff Mauro. They require two hands, and are crafted with love and made with local or regional ingredients where possible. Fries in the paper wrapper rock. Their line of host soda and garlic jalapeno pickles are their unique signature. These are some of the best sandwiches in town.
