First, some unneeded background info. My wife and I are transplants from Northern NY. She moved to Columbus for her graduate work in OSU and I followed her. Ohio was always a temporary thing; the plan was to move back to NY at our first opportunity so we could be closer to our families. A few years later I landed an excellent job in Lancaster OH and Mary’s graduate work ended. After a year or so of commuting from Clintonville to Lancaster, we grudgingly decided that it may make more financial sense to move down there.
In the last year since we made that decision something funny happened. We discovered that we missed Columbus far more than we missed Northern NY and we want to return. Mary is going to start working on a different degree at Columbus State Community College in the Fall, so we’re looking into moving back to Columbus in the next few months. The point of this post is to figure out what general area to live in. We lived in Clintonville for the longest time, but we would like to look at an area that’s a bit closer to CSCC and the rest of downtown. (We basically don’t want to use a car.) We’ve heard that Merion Village could be a good area to look into. I have about $650 to spend on rent each month, so that’s probably going to limit our choices. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
